Exclamation

Only three weeks of use, and the icons on my buttons are wearing off already! What's happening with those of you who've had your units for a few months? Any suggestions for how I can stop this?

I considered clear nail polish, but I don't trust my manual dexterity and fear I'd leak some polish into the innards...

I'm sorry to hear about your button problem...I've had my Blue Visor Deluxe since November, and my buttons look like new!

I've had my Graphite VDX since December and with regular use it shows no signs of losing icons off the buttons.

Sorry to say, but it sounds like you got a dud. I don't know how to stop it. You could see if Handspring will replace the VDX, but that's an extreme measure .

If you did try clear nail polish, my suggestion would be to use a Q-tip to apply it. Dip one end of the q-tip in the polish, and then twirl it around a bit on the button. Make sure that when you dip the q-tip, it doesn't come out dripping with polish - just with enough of a coating to cover the button.

A bit distressed to find I'm alone alone in this so far, although I guess I should find it somewhat reassuring that my problem is not indicative of a general quality control issue. As I think about it, the problem is probably my guitarist fingernails scraping the paint off...

Thanks for the [Q-]tip!

My original Visor (Purchased in early January) had the address and phone books almost comletely worn off. I had the Visor replaced because my Springboard slot was cracking and the new one has shown no sign of comming off.

memo button's been a little worn off for a while now, but I don't mind. The construction seems good, and concidering the number of times I've dropped my visor on hard surfaces, I'm surprised it still runs, let alone is unscratched!

My memo butotn has a little section of it that has worn off. It aggravates me a little bit, but oh well.

Unhappy Fading fast...

The erosion seemed to have slowed for a while, but now I fear I'll soon have no icons left (and of course, even after 6 months, I need the visual cues to remember which button's which).

Anyone else had this problem lately?

mine is fading fast from all the moisture of my fingers , I only use mine in my EB case now to protect what are left on the buttons.

Mine (Ice VDX) didn't take long to show some wear after I got it around Thanksgiving 1999... I blamed it on using the stylus to push the buttons. I basically ignored it until I got my son a Green VDX back in August and his made mine look pretty shabby. I used the reset pin on my PDA Panache stylus to gently scrape the remaining traces of the logos off and it looks much better. I'd already mapped the right 2 buttons to DiddleBug and BrainForest anyway so if anything it is less confusing to have them blank.

I have a little wear, but I think it's from using the stylus on the buttons. I don't use the icons that much anyway though.
