No, the backup module is designed just to bac up the data on the internal RAM of the visor in case your visor's memory gets wiped after a crash or loss of battery power.

The flash module is read-only memory that applications -can- run on if they are written properly to do so. Read my review of both modules at:

the article is called "Springboard Stocking Stuffers"

I've also bookmarked that web site.

Here's a related question - does the backup module indeed have 8MB, or is it less? I remember hearing that it was only 2MB!

Question

Jason,

Isn't all the flash the same? If you had the File Mover program for the 8M-Flash Springboard and ran it with the Backup Module, couldn't you use the Backup essentially as an 8M Flash?

Yeah, the backup program automatically runs whenever the Backup Module is inserted, but I'm sure a hack could be made that allows the Visor to ignore any Springboard module startup programs.

And think, then you'd be able to get a virtual 8M module for half the cost.

Doug- the Backup Module has 8M, but if you don't have a Visor Deluxe, it won't use its upper 6M. At least I don't think the Backup Module has any provisions for anything but a single backup (no multiple backup options or anything)
