I downloaded Quo Vadis and the Texas maps... Tried it out... Is this what GPS is like? Cause if it is, I didn't find it all impressive. There were hardly any street names near where I live (bfe Texas) and well... I was wondering when the Springboard comes out does the Satellite put the names in or is it reliant on the Software maps?

The software puts the names in. All the GPS does is tell the software where you are on the map. Did you zoom in enough to see the names of the smaller roads? To do this you must tap and hold the stylus on the map until the menu pops up which will allow you to zoom in. I thought it was really pretty good.

I also live in Texas and downloaded the program and Texas maps. I also live in bfe and when zoomed in found the map to be very accurate and highly detailed with names.

Which BFE do you guys live in, E or W TX? I'm in Houston, so I figure the maps should have some decent detail.

Of course it would be nice to have a map with good details when I visit my in-laws in Buna (near Vidor).

Hi James!

I visited your Home Page once. Was nice to see you live in Houston. I live in Plantersville and about to head back to Sam Houston for round 3 of the English degree. Plantersville is real close to the Renassiance (sp) Festival. Anyway, I didn't really read the documentation on Quo Vadis too well so didn't know to hold the stylus down... I will give it another go.

Is Quo Vadis better than any others? Or worse? Or the same?

I have been looking at software for the Palm and Windows platforms for mapping with a GPS. I still think the best PDA mapping software (sans GPS) is MS Streets/PocketStreets. It is very complete, but only available for WinCE devices.

I just purchased a Garmin GPS III+ (actually my wife did, for me for christmas). It will be great for snowmobiling. It has some built in maps that contain some detail. Maps can also be purchased to supplement the built in GPS maps (more detail).

However, my biggest thrill would be the following:
My garmin gps, my visor and laptop.

Laptop would have Street Atlas USA 7, very complete with address-to-address routing. Of course, my GPS would feed it the location.

Visor would have QuoVardis (sp?) hooked up to my GPS.

The first one is easy. The second one, however, might be more complicated. I need to find a way to access the serial port of the Visor and covert it to a 9pin serial cable. Then, my bases would be covered.

By the way, does anyone know the pinouts of the Visor port?

Does anyone know any of the nitty details of the QuoVadis (sp)? Like how many way-points can it store? Is it possible to hook up an antenna to it? I wouldn't think so b/c of the small for factor but one can't be sure. I know it has NMEA 0183 output to communicate with other GPS driven devices (i.e. boat autopilot), but can't find much about the others.
