Now, those things I like. They are meant to look that way. Nobody likes a brand new pair of 501's. They have to be faded, worn, look like you've had them on in the outback or on the range.

But my PDA should look nice and techno, not worn and faded.

Hey Dick, if you had a Visor DLX you would probably like this cover then. It's faded and worn out..........

I am in that same pattern. One day I'm annoyed the next it doesn't bother me.

What does bother me is that it's going to happen again. Just like it did to DPW. HS is obviously not clear coating the buttons and the buttons are just straight metal that are subject to tarnish, rust, and anything else the elements can throw at them.

Once I find a good way to get rid of the tarnish then I'll be happy. But now, every time I load up a program (actually it's games) I think "Will I be using the buttons to much and make them tarnish again?" it shouldn't be that way with a PDA that's less then a month old.

I used a fine silver polishing cloth (no solutions please!) and gently wiped the tarnish away.

What we're seeing is the oxidation of the silver plating on the buttons due to the oils, dirt, acids on our sweaty finger tips. How to stop it? You can't. Just like jewelry, silver plated instruments or guitar strings/frets. Things just rust.

Slow it down by wiping the buttons down every now and then with a clean soft cloth, and polishing it with a fine silver polishing cloth will help. I'd beware of polishing the colored paint, as I don't think this will hold up well under polish... just a thought.

I've had my edge for several months and had "serious" build up. It took about 5 minutes of rubbing, but it came off. Note, the Edge buttons now look smooth, were as before they had a slightly ruff feel.

The buttons are plated with silver, REAL silver? That's cool!!! Of course, I happen to like real silver, but that's just me .

Tarnished?

Actually, my Edge's buttons haven't tarnished, but I've noticed that the stylus is turning black!

I used a polishing cloth I had lying around (must have come with some watch, or other piece of jewlery I purchased years ago) and the tarnish came right off! You wouldn't believe how black the cloth turned, cleaning the stylus.

Of course, it's easier to polish the stylus (just wrap it in the cloth, squeeze, and pull it back and forth) then it would be to polish the buttons, but this worked great. Stylus now looks bright and shinny, and just like new!

Button's look fine, however.

Yes sir! I called the 888 number from their website (the customer service number, not tech support). Told them I spoke with a tech rep the previous week about the tarnished buttons and did what they told me to do (a little Windex on a paper towel). I told the Customer. Service rep that this resolution didn't work and that I wanted a replacement unit. Like I said before, all I heard was "No Problem Sir, It's on the way". Maybe I've been lucky but for all 3 of my issues, each Customer Service Rep has "OK'd" the replacement without any hassles.

If you don't like the tarnished look (unlike our buddy, dick-richardson ) then you should give HS a call. If the device is under warranty you are entitled to a new unit. Quite honestly, if mine gets as bad as it was I'll send it back again. I'm not out anything and all I have to do is transfer my data with the backup module. Maybe Handspring will catch on and see that this is a problem and rectify it ASAP. The only way they'll know there's a problem is to see the units returned. I'm sure the QA dept runs reports to see why devices are returned. This is just like the Visor DLX case cracking issue and the Visor DLX RF issue. Both of those got solved after enough units were returned as defective.
