That Handspring will be concentrating on wireless communications devices (ie; Treo) instead of the Visor line.

My condolences.

Handspring doesn't have the money to keep the visor line going. They're not Sony, and they have even less money than Palm. Sony has virtually unlimited financial resources. Handspring has done well with consumer electronics, but Sony is kinda of consumer electronics for everything. Handspring is being smart, and not sticking around to be skinned alive. They're pulling out into the new, but going-to-be-big market or wireless. I think they'll do a great job there. Hey, they might even turn a profit!

When Handspring's visor line starts dying, sprindboards, accessories, and units themselves will go for crazy cheap prices. All the better for us. By the time we're going to retire our visors. Sony will have plenty of options to choose from. And OS 5 had better be good!

Arrow How long will Sony Go?

How long will it take Sony to say enough is enough and exit the PDA market liek they did with teir Audrey-type web appliance? It appears that there are no profits to be had in this marketplace anymore. Unless their handheld efforts are part fo a grand scheme, Sony will not continue to make PDAs forever if there is no hope of makin a profit.

Yea, but Sony didn't get from 0% to 10% market in 2 weeks with the Audrey. They've sold many more handheld units than Audrey units. I bet after the first month, Sony sold more handheld units than the entire Audrey's life. Sony will wipe everyone out in the PalmOS camp, and you think they still won't make a profit? I think not. If not already, Sony will begin profiting from handheld sales soon...Plus, they have so much money anyway, they can last a long time. They're doing VERY well here.

The web appliance market is not made yet, and probably wont ever. Wireless handhelds, and regular desktops and laptops are better solutions than a web appliance. A true web appliance of the future will probably be a combination of those. Maybe even run PalmOS? Who knows, but Sony is here to stay, they'd be stupid to pull out, when everyone else is scared of them. Palm is running around like a sissy, haha. And Handspring is pulling out of making Visors. How do you think that makes Sony feel? hehe
