Services will be held this Sunday for my Blue Vdx. It was a very useful device until it slipped out of my shirt pocket as i was hopping up the sidewalk curb from a parking lot. It hit flat as a pancake on the cement and is now only two thirds visible with its many cracks. I hope Handspring has the heart to help me in this matter. I'll let you all know what turns out.

I had a scare yesterday, after reading about HotCarl's "lucky bounce" that killed his visor, mine dropped on the cement yesterday from about 3.5 feet. But it started right up and I've had no problems. So don't play football with it, but it's also not more fragile than it appears. I had the hard cover on (glad I haven't tossed it yet). Maybe that saved the screen.

There are instructions on the Handspring site for for people who have had received their Visor's with broken displays. Handspring will repair the units that got dammaged.

It pays to invest in a case and use it. Mine took a dive onto the floor hard enough to put a small tear on the rubberized corner of its neoprene case (from Incase) without any damage. I did however reinforce the case with a thick plastic sheet to protect the screen from pressure and from sideways crushing. My original Palm Pilot was damaged this way, so I learned the hard way.

Wow, what a bummer! I can only imagine what went through your mind as your poor new Visor hit the ground. I hope you can get it fixed soon. It's stories like this that have convinced me that it's worth the $100 to get a titanium case (Rhinoskin) and then not have to worry about it. My only concern is that the Ti-slider for the Visor does not really hold the unit in place when the case is open except with gravity and friction. Has anyone had a problem with this? What are peoples opinions on the Ti case? I've only read glowing reviews of the Titanium cases for the Pilot and I'm sure that the case for the Visor is just as happening and that the non-secure issue is no big deal. Am I right? Thanks in advnace!

I would like to hear from anybody who has dropped their visor while in the ShockSuit case. How does the ShockSuit hold up in a Real life situation?

I had a close call as I was bending over to pull up my pants. (Sorry for the detail.)It slipped right out of my pocket and fell flat on its back cover on onto a concrete floor. I was just about in tears hoping I hadn't ruined it. I turned it on and it came to life. WHEW! I ordered a RhinoSkin ShockSuit Sunday night and received it on Tuesday and now I'm worry free. Hopefully!

Yes it had the plastic cover on it. The darn thing landed on its back, so w/ or w/o would have done the same. BTW, (call this irony) I had my hands full w/ 2 toys to drop off for Toys for Tots and was trying to clip my nokia in its belt clip when my BVD tumbled.

I know this is rather posthumous, but it might help others with this problem. I used to have a PalmPilot personal, and grew rather attached to my belt clip case. I was hoping my Vdx would fit as well, and lo and behold (albeit without the plastic cover) the Vdx fits better than the old PPP. I actually got the case because I wanted a secure way to carry my PDA with me all the time and not have to worry about it slipping out somewhere. I am now worry free. I've of course dropped the case a few times, but I've never had any ill effects come from it. (Knock on wood!!!)

I was in Mexico recently with my wife and daughter when my Visor took a spill. We were running across a road, in the middle of traffic and the BVD went flying out of my hand. I braved the oncoming traffic to grab my precious payload. Oh what joy to find that it turned on and has worked fine ever since. Didn't even loose the battery cover! I'm still planning on ordering a case for it now that I'm back in the states!

I had a Rhinoskin Shocksuit on my Visor when it dropped out of my bookbag... while I was riding my bike! Needless to say it hit hard, but nary a scratch and the Shocksuit still looks great. Ohhh yeaahhh!

Three cheers for Customer Service. HS may have had some problems out of the gate but, they more more than happy to accomodate me with my little ordeal. The CSR gave me an RMA # in a flash and the address for the return and said I would receive my new Visor in 7 to 8 days! I am very HAPPY!

Wouldn't count on it being a "NEW" Visor but instead a refurbished one. That is if they follow the same policy that's in place with Palm.

Will Handspring charge you for the repair? I slammed by IDX in the door of my car and broke the screen. They are going to charge me $75 to replace it.

I had a dog chew on my VDX, and Handspring did send me a replacement.

I do suspect it is a refurb, but I can't really tell because it is in like new condition.

In my case getting a referb isn't a problem as long as it is referbed properly.

I do suspect you are correct about the repairs being referbs though.

I dropped mine the other day, too! It slid right out of the leather case and crashed onto the concrete ground! Fortunately, it survived w/o any major flaws/problems/scratches, etc.! WOOO-HOOO!
