Has anyone tried to do this? I have a PalmIII that my wife wants(after a hard reset, of course) while I get a Visor Deluxe for myself. Handspring's website says that their software updates your current desktop hotsync software to work with the visor. Will this mean that my hotsync mgr will no longer recognize the PalmIII? What does the Visor software update? If it's just the USB connection, then my concerns are probably moot as I'm running Win95.
Anyone with any answers? Thanks.

Joe V,
You can use the Visor provided Hotsync 3.0.2H to sync to both Visor and Palm devices --- I am doing this on my home PC. The Visor uses USB and the Palm uses a serial port. My Palm device now has Palm OS 3.3 installed on it.
The new Hotsync (3.3?) that Palm provides with Palm OS 3.3 upgrade does not include USB capability though.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!
This would make it much easier to handle. However, I run Win 95, therefore I'll have to toggle two serial cradles. Luckily my wife will probably not need to sync very often. This makes me wonder, if you are syncing both via serial port, does one need the Visor update to the hotsync mgr?

Joe V,
It sounds like you only have one serial port? You could add a serial port to your PC and have both cradles connected at the same time.
I'm pretty sure that you will not need to install the Visor version of Hotsync in order to synchronize to the Visor. In fact, I would be tempted to install the updated Palm Hotsync (that comes with Palm OS 3.3 upgrade) as this new Palm Hotsync is supposedly much faster for serial port synching.

I've already installed the PalmOS 3.3 opgrade to my PalmIII. It does, in fact, hotsync noticeably faster with the hotsync mgr upgrade. The only thing is, Handspring's online support says we need to install the Visor update when syncing a visor with a serial connection. I don't know why. They say that the hotsync mgr version should then read: "version 3.0.2H". The only problem is that my hotsync mgr version is now "3.0.4"(after I upgraded to PalmOS 3.3). Will the visor update work on "3.0.4", or will trying this really screw things up?
I guess I'll find out when my Visor Deluxe arrives (I should have plenty of time to find the answer before I get it, cough-cough).
Adding a serial port might work on the Visor, but it does not work with the palm. The Palms are only capable of syncing with COM1 or COM2 on either IRQ3 or IRQ4.
PS: I know this from experience.

sih,
You are wrong. The Palm Hotsync can be done on COM3 --- my PalmPilot hotsyncs on COM3. I have a mouse on COM1 and external ISDN modem on COM2.
