Discussion forum loading in Netscape ties up my computer

The new discussion forum makes my computer unusable for as long as it takes to download the whole page. I checked this on two different Mac's using two different versions of Netscape. I also have a fast internet connection (cable at home, T1 at work). The main page:www.visorcentral.com does not have this problem, but when I click on "discussion" my screen goes blank and I can't do anything until the whole page suddenly shows up (which often takes a while). This is very annoying because the Mac apparently remembers my mouseclicks so that if I clicked on what happened to be link on the new page, then it will start loading that page once the discussion page loads. I checked IE and it does not have this problem, so it must be an encoding problem with Netscape.

This is because the discussion boards are now placed in one large table. (This was a result of the redesign). Netscape renders the page one table at a time. Since the entire page is one large table, with several nested tables, the entire page needs to download before Netscape can figure out what to do.

Before, each reply (I believe) was it's own table, so Netscape could draw one table at a time.

There are two options:

1) Stop using Netscape (or upgrade to Netscape 6 and/or Mozilla)

2) Ask Visor Central to get rid of the table-redesign.

As for 1) At one point I did try Netscape 6 on the Mac, but decided it was too buggy and ugly to use.
As for using IE I run into problems with sites using javascript, which is not always handled well by IE (and one can guess why!?). Moreover I don't like M$ to completely dominate the browser market and dictate what works on a webpage and what does not.
Therefore: VisorCentral can you please change the way you redesigned the table drawing. I might be paranoid, but it might be a feature of M$ software you used, which "accidentally" breaks something in a competitor's product. I know of other instances in the past when this happened.

Try Mozilla instead. I prefer it over Netscape.

Actually, IE5/Mac is one of the best browser out there for any platform. The sites it has trouble with Javascript on are just poorly coded sites.

Not sure what you mean by that. Technically speaking, ALL browsers can dictate what does or does not work in their own browser. To be fair, IE5/Mac and Mozilla are the only two browsers that come anywhere close to truly supporting web standards.

This has nothing to do with VisorCentral or the software they used to design the site. Netscape Navigator 4.7 simply has a very poor rendering engine and tends to puke on complex sited designed within one large table.

Could VC accomodate NN4.7 users better? Certainly. But don't go thinking this is some sort of Microsoft Conspiracy. (I fully believe that there ARE MS Conspiracies, but this isn't one of them. )

I'm not positive but I don't think any MS software was used in the creation of this site.

You probably meant Javascript or Jscript errors. If they really annoy you, just turn of SHOW ERROR ALERTS in explorer and you'll never have to see them again...
