Cool

Hey all,

I saw an ad for the VisorPhone in the a promo from a local Mac dealer, but without price quotation. So, I mailed them and asked when it would be available, and for what price. Also asked about whether it would work on my Visor DLX (given the FAQ on the Handspring pages which states the VisorPhone World should not be used on anything less than a Platinum).

Although they couldn't tell me what machines it will work on, they could tell me it will be available within 10 days, at a price of 15.000 BEF. Now the problem is they mailed me the dealer price-list, so it will probably be a little more, and then we have to add another 21% VAT, which gives a total of at -probably- about 20.000 BEF, which, at the current rate of the US$ (48BEF = 1US$) equals to about 420US$. This means I will not go for it :-/

Since we have 3 separate networks here, I guess they will be available in store without any service plan.

If I get more info, I will keep you posted !

Thomas

Question Processor Speed May be an issue

I read on another site that the VDX will not operate in Europe because the slower processor in it can't sync with the 900 MHz signal of European GSM.
- that's why Handspring says you need the faster units.
- please report back on your experience with the Delxe and the Visorphone - IF you decide to try it!.

Thought we said it in another thread here yet, normally the processor shouldn't make the difference, but it could be the Visor DLX is badly shielded somehow. Also, how could Kensington make that keypad for the VisorPhone if it requird a fast processor. I don't even know if there is any processor in it which is worth that name.

I think that is exactly the point. As mentioned in some postings before the most VDX here in Europe are badly shielded. Handspring will send out RF-optimized VDX at request but only at request - so it is cheaper for them to tell you that they do not work on a VDX than exchanging all these units. And what I see is that the keypad proofs this statement because I do not belive they put a faster processor in it than we see in the VDX.
I hope there will be the possibility to check this out at a store - sometime...

CU
Chris
