Unhappy

Has anybody had any problems using the Springport Modem with the Prism?
Things were fine until I tried to install the Low Battery Upgrade. As instructed I put it onto the Prism and Plugged in the Modem. Immediately I got a fatal Exception Error. Nothing I did could overcome this. SO BE Warned.
I spoke to XIRCOM since their website does not have any options for Springports. They said that there was conflict between the Bios on the Springport and the Prism. They would replace the modem. Great.
Unfortunately for me Store21 where I bought it did not believe this and have just been sold to Expansys. After two weeks of chasing I eventually got a new modem and a stroppy note. Thanks Store21!!!
Tried the new model no fatal error when plugging in but whenever you try and do something like use AVANTGO, Multimail or even adjust the settings.
Spoke to XIRCOM who took the details and searched their database which took five minutes just reading the similar problems. But could not find a solution. Has now been passed onto 2nd level support with the happy words that "I expect it will have to go to 3rd level support" GREAT!!!
Has anyone else had similar problems??
Alan
PS If you are thinking of trying the Prism/Springport combination be warned!!

Uh-oh.

I think I may have had the same problem. I installed the new firmware like a week ago, tried it once, had a similar problem. Put it aside because I was busy with other things, and I have a Minstrel so I don't use the Springport much.

When I get some response from the 2nd level support I will let you know. They promised 48hrs! That was last Thursday.

My Prism/Springport combination works fine. The only problem I've had is that before installing the low battery update, if my batteries were low and I didn't know it, I would get fatal errors. Once I applied the upgrade, everything worked great.

Mine worked fine until I tried the upgrade. Do you use Avantgo? Do you use it through the Hot Sync as well as the Springport? What other 3rd party software do you use?

Smile

I finally had the chance to sit down and play with my Springport and Visor, and I'm happy to report that I do not appear to have any problems. I got on quickly (using MSN), and surfed using AvantGo for a bit. No hangs, no error messages.

I now suspect that my earlier problem was just a goof on my part - I think I forgot to change my connection method in preferences/network, and the Springport probably tried to connect using my YadaYada wireless settings - which obviously won't work. This time, I changed to my standard modem settings before connecting, and it worked great.

atscrase - have you tried reinstalling the firmware upgrade? If not, good luck with Xircom's support.

I also installed the update and my springport modem went bonkers and caused a fatal reset every time I put it into my Prism. Xircom sent me a new modem and, of course, I did not try to install the update. Everything is working OK at this point.
