Unhappy

Can some one please tell this bereft how the bl***y hell this visor thing is supose dto IR Synch? I have taken a lot of very good advice and I am srtill non the wiser. I have a visor deluxe, an imac at home and a Motorola Timeport L7089 'phone with internal modem and IR port. All I want to do is join all these 3 together. I have downloaded and installed beamsync to, the visor and run Multi Mail conduit for Mac on the desktop.

Which 'phone number do I put on the visor? Home or my ISP?

How does it go about synching? Does it call my desktop which downloads from my ISP then relays on or do I download from my ISP direct?

Help, please, I have 2 days to sort it out or my wife is going to tell all my friends that I am a useless waste of oxygen (true as it may be!)

Thanks ANYBODY.

Rossi

mac IR sync

Is it an old imac with an IR port? I can IR sync my visor deluxe to my Powerbook via irLink <www.iscomplete.com> . I know you need a third party app like irLink to do IR, but i've not heard of Beamsync. With IRLink, read the instructions carefully, because you are s'posed to install only select apps from the Palm IR software.

I've no knowledge on hooking up via IR to your phone.

Here's what I found searching VC:

http://discussion.visorcentral.com/...p?threadid=7998
says you need either IRLink or BeamSync software.

If you only want to synch email, configure your ISP email as a POP account and dial your Visor into that. If you really want to do a desktop synch, I think you'll have to call home to your pc.

Also there's a long thread:
http://discussion.visorcentral.com/...p?threadid=5570
about serial connections to cell phones, but a lot of the information seems to apply (settings, etc)

and another long thread:
http://discussion.visorcentral.com/...p?threadid=3060
about IR synching

Good luck, let us know if you get it working!

RTFM

Rossi,
Perhaps you didn't get my emails? if not perhaps you should update your profile.

Allow me to re-iterate..

Configure your modem settings thus:

Modem:Custom
Speed:57,600 bps
Speaker:Low
Flow Ctl:Automatic
Country:Other
String :AT&CBST=71,0,1

Set Beam Receive in general prefs to OFF.

To connect to the internet you need to configure Network prefs to your ISP settings.Fill in all the dialogues as per your iMac dial-up settings, including your ISP dial-up phone number

To HotSync to your iMac via your modem you'll need to dial the phone number that your iMac's modem is connected to. Tap the HotSync icon on your Visor and enter the phone number in the box marked "Enter phone #"

You'll need to configure both your Visor and HotSync Manager on your iMac to enable remote modem hotsyncing to occur and you'll find quite comprehensive instructions on how to set this up in, surprise, surprise, THE MANUAL! (On your Handspring CD)

As we quaintly put it here in England "RTFM"

Ben

Thanks in advance

Benm,
On the case as we speak, I have now got the Visor to activate my IR port on my 'phone and am a'fettling the rest as quick as my 3 week old little boy will let me. ( He's probably gurgling the answers I need). Thanks very much for all your help. I'll keep you posted.

Cheers,

Rossi

Getting there slowly, V. slowly

I am getting somewhere. I have done as you said and the results are as follows.

When I do a modem synch to my ISP, the visor says it is dialling my ISP, my'phone says data call in progress. (all good so far) However, the connection drops out and the visor says either redialling or 'error no carrier (0x1102)'. The 'phone says that the IR port is activated.

When I try to synch to my desktop, I put my home number in and tell it to modem synch and very shortly after that it comes up with error ' modem not found (0x1106)' The 'phone does not activate the IR port.

I have checked all my settings and logged on with motorola. They suggest a string of AT&FXCBST=71,0,1, which just comes up as a load of hoop.

I realise that this a huge pain in the ass, but I,m a non-technical type of Brit, unlike yourself and am determined to crack it. (For all us non-techie visor users out there!)

Cheers,
Rossi
