Unhappy HELP! Can't get the STOWAWAY to work

Hi Everyone-

I just got a Stowaway keyboard. I know it works because the person who sold it to me did test it.

I installed the Keyboard.prc installation file, version 1.6 - most current version. Then, I ENABLED the driver by going into the keyboard icon.

Then, I insert my visor into the stowaway and nothing happens. I try to click and type and nothing. I open the memo prog and try typing and nothing.

Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks

Try this: Turn off the Visor, dock it in the stowaway, turn on the visor, go to the keyboard app and check that it is enabled. For good measure, turn off the visor and then turn it back on. Now go to memo pad (or whatever you want to type in) and try it. If it doesn't work, I would try soft-resetting then doing it again.

After inserting the Visor in the Stowaway, turn it off and than on again.

Miradu is right. Don't feel bad, however, I did the exact same thing when I got mine.

The driver should be enabled and the Visor should be off before attaching it to the Stowaway. You might also want to make sure beam receive is set to off as well.

*DOH* Thanks for the help! That was the problem...!

I can figure out how to enable the pointer - but how do you actually use it? I don't see a mouse pointer anywhere

I think you hold down the ctrl or fn or one of those shift type buttons. glad to see you got the keyboard and got it working.

I would also suggest that you set the speed and the acceleration under the pointer preferences to the maximum. I found that the pointer was more usable that way.

Word-to-Go (part of Documents-to-Go) was really sucky the first time I tried to use it with my new Stowaway. The Deluxe froze up on me two or three times, letters would disappear and re-appear, and scrolling behaved really badly.

Just downloaded the trial of WordSmith, and it is HEAVEN!!! This word processor is everything those people rave about, and it is absolutely IN CAHOOTS with the Stowaway!

I'll definitely pay the registration fee for this piece of software. With the Stowaway, really, this combo is absolutely like a mini-laptop with MS Word.

Once again, I couldn't agree more. I love Wordsmith because of its Stowaway capability. Almost every key-command (ctrl-b, ctrl-u) will work with the stowaway, plus it has a handful of wordsmith only keyboard commands...(ctrl-p=formatting menu)...the best part is that wordsmith is the ONLY wdoc program that you can use the keyboard to navigate around the menus....so you can use your keyboard instead of the stylus for everything (especially with the pointer in driver 1.6!)

Personally, I have never had trouble with Documents-to-Go and my StowAway. I have never tried WordSmith so I cannot compare the two.

If you would like to have the capability of navigating menus and lists with your keyboard in all applications, I would suggest the following two hacks:

listNavigator Hack

menuNavigator Hack

These provide the functionality available in LapTop Hack with a smaller memory overhead.

I visited Targus' site, and their version listed is at 1.51. Is the 1.6 a beta? And where did you find it at? I'm very interested in this cursor thing...

The actual manufacturer of the StowAway is ThinkOutside. On their website, they have the newest drivers which are version 1.6. These are not beta drivers. I do not know why Targus has not updated their site with the newest drivers.

Go to Think Outside's Webpage. If you look on the back of your keyboard you will see that it was created by Think Outside but licensed by Targus. The page you can find the Driver at is

The link to Think Outside's support web page where you can download version 1.6 driver. (For the 4th time).

Sorry but I had to post this so I could make it to 180 posts.

Congratulations on Post 180 - I'm at a measly 54, but then again, I've been registered for less than a month! That has to be pretty good.
