MUST GO places in Las Vegas?

MUST GO places in Las Vegas?

Hi All,

Well I finally booked my tickets and we're planning on going to Las Vegas November 9, 10, and 11. We ended up getting a package deal and we're staying in NYNY. Can't wait!

Now the hard part creating an itineary. Since we're only there for the weekend, I want to make sure we don't have any "deadtime". Does any one have any suggestions to the following:

* Lunch/Dinner Buffets
Any places that we should go for the bang for the buck? I heard food is extremely cheap in Vegas - anyone have any tips?

* Vegas Shows
Are there any vegas shows that are a "Must See"? Any past experiences would be great!

* Clubs
Any really nice dance clubs to go to while down in Vegas? Are there clubs inside the hotels? Is there a joint cover? How much? Recommendations?

* Casinos to gamble at
What are the best casino's to gamble? We're all pretty much newbies to the gambling thing - but we'd like to go to some nice places to gamble (and drink ) I heard MGM Grand had one of the better casino's - any other recommendations?

* Shopping
For the shopping aspect, I heard there are some outlet stores near the strip - anyone know what shops are there? (ie: Kenneth Cole, Banana Republic, Diesel). Are there any "gadget" oriented stores that I must go see?

* Other Attractions/Events
Is there anything special going on while we're going to be in Vegas? I'll be missing Comdex, but is there anything else?

about 5 or 6 years ago i was there and my friend and i rented a car from Sunbelt (?) motors which ONLY rents convertables.

It's a short walk north on the strip from the Flamingo Hilton. Back then we payed $65/day for a miata and had a great time driving around to the hoover dam, etc. in a nice convertable (make sure you put sunscreen on...even in the winter...we found out the hard way )

back then, they didn't take reservations, you had to show up that morning and choose from what was available...other prices i remember:

BMW Z3 $120/day
Viper T-top (350HP!) was $300/day

these prices include insurance and 200 miles(?).

If you need a car to see some sights...might as well go convertable!!

If your a Star Trek fan of any degree by all means DON'T MISS the Star Trek Experience at the Las Vegas Hilton.. (not the Flamingo Hilton) even my wife (an avid trek hater really enjoyed it - that's really saying allot!) http://www.startrekexp.com/welcome/index.html

I also second the Freemont St. Experience, was really neat, just wish I had my video camera with us.. It was the Freemont Experience that actually got me interested in going to Vegas in the first place, I saw it on TV and couldn't believe what I had seen.

The free 3D movie at the M&M store (on the 3rd or 4th floor) was pretty neat too.. That's right across from the NYNY (or pretty close to it from what I recall)..

Walk thru some of the other casino's on the strip, simply amazing, the Luxor was neat and the MGM was simply HUGE..


There is a free tram shuttle that runs from between the Luxor, Excalibur,Monte Carlo and the Belliago , I suggest taking it as the distance although it looks short on a map , really is pretty long to walk.

There is a city "trolley" bus that's fairly cheap and runs between all the strip casino's, however, it's always stopping , slow and no A/C.. In the end we both got headaches from the lack of shocks.. I suggest taking a taxi to the off strip locals (the Freemont experience and the star trek experience) if you don't have a rental car.

Check out the Belliago's free water fountain show at night, that was an amazing sight.. (the people who made it also designed all the magic water fountains at the Disney theme parks)

Unfortunately we weren't in Vegas long enough to check out the rest of the strip past the Belliago.. But it looks worth checking out some of the free outside shows the other casino's offer..

Another budget tip:
if you are driving in from CA stop at the CA-Nevada border, its like a mini vegas and they have booklets with dicount coupons...you can find those booklets everywhere that is fairly close to vegas...

Also listen to the local radio when you drive into town they usually have commecials with special discounts..

If it's the one I think you are talking about, it was the "Monte Carlo Pub and Brewery" at the Monte Carlo.

Yes a great place to grab a brew in the hot dry vegas weather..

Red rock canyon

Just got back, freemont street experience, $10.99 steak and 2 lobster tails at the stardust. Showgirls at the Rio, fountain show at the belogio, volcano at the mirage, gondolas at venice, shadow club at ceasers palace, but best of all redrock is 20 minutes away- go see the 2000 year old anistazi pictographs
and the grand canyon is only 4 hours away...have fun!

Blue Man Group

If you can get tickets to see the Blue Man Group, they are worth it. They play at the Luxor.

Siegfried & Roy was a decent show but definitely not worth $100 a ticket! It's not even a dinner show, just two tiny drinks!

I second (or third or whatever) the Fremont Street Experience and Bellagio Water Show. Make sure to hit Bellagio when it's darker, that's when the water show is the best.

You have to go to the top of the Stratosphere Tower. The sights are awesome and the rides at the top are great!

Agreed here also, if you need to get someplace take a taxi. The trolley is OK if you want to see the strip but it takes way too long if you just want to get from point A to point B.

Lance Burton's magic show is a real value if you want to see a great show- far cheaper than, and a lot better than (IMHO) Seigfried and Roy.

In most shows, for a fairly small tip, you can get seated a lot closer to the action. When I saw Lance, a $10 tip got me seated at the edge of a short runway he worked on a lot- great seats! (Was several years ago, but a great show!)

Travel Channel recently did a big thing about the Top 10 things in Vegas. They really liked the Stratosphere- said it's somewhat out fo the way location made it more competetive.

Free: Many of the casinos have some outdoor display or another- the fountains, a volcano, pirate ship, light shows, etc. An evening walk to see these is a lot of fun!

Tip: If you do much walking, and are not used to the dryness, be sure to bring lots of drinking water!
