I tried a hack called Sleep Pics the other day. Now I want to remove it. I emailed the author, who told me that it can't be removed, only disabled.

Any suggestions?

The author gave you a stupid answer. Worst case you can do a hard reset to remove it.

Better yet, remove it like any hack. In hackmaster, uncheck it. Then hit the applications silkscreen button, then the menu silkscreen button, select delete, scroll down to SleepPics and delete it. You'll want to delete any pictures at the same time.

Let me know if it works.

Cool

You should be able to delete it with Z'Catalog.

ZCatalog worked. The problem was that the hack didn't show up in the Applications>Delete listing. This is why the author said it couldn't be removed. I don't know why it didn't show. Couldn't it have been written so it would show up?

I'm not sure. From my limited experience with programming the Palm/Visor I know that it is possible to create an app that will not show up in Applications>Delete, but I do not know if there are cases where is it required.

All "files" on a PalmOS device have a creator ID. A 4-character code that is supposed to identify what application a file belongs to. Anytime an application is release; one is suppose to register the creator ID with Palm. Thus avoiding problems with two programs using the same ID. This also applies to HACKs.

Now the delete and info dialog boxes lumps together data "files" with the application with the same creator ID. When it finds a "file" with a creator ID with no associated application, it list the file separately. This is what normally happens with HACKs. It could be that the author of this HACK made a mistake and used a creator ID of an existing application (say HackMaster's "dwHM"). In which case the only way to delete it (without another tool) would be to delete HackMaster. Or it could be that the author used a creator ID of another program on purpose. Say Memo Pad's "memo"; in this case one would not be able to delete it at all (without another tool). Neither of these missuses of the creator ID is a programmer suppose to do.

That's why one of my favorite programs FileMover, that comes with the Flash modules. I've started using that to remove any applications/data. It lists the applications, then the files associated with them, right under them. I wish the "Applications>Delete" worked the same way, because there have been a few times when I deleted an app, and related files stayed on my Visor.
