current omnisky browser still not in color yet, but I think and hope they will release an omnisky version of Blazer.

Yada seemed to be down in Seattle today. Tonight I can get on the web with it, but it's kind of hit or miss. One minute I'm ripping along at a pretty good clip, the next I've lost the connection, then I'm back, then I'm off again.

Talking All is not lost...

12:30 am 4/19/01 - I was just able to connect for the first time in about a day and a half. I'm feeling better already BTW, I'm in the LAX area.

I made him aware of this thread and that many are under the impression that Yada is going under. I stressed to Eric that Yada needs to make a public statement SOON; whether it's via email or on their website, and he agreed. He said that he'll pass my message on to his superiors asap.

I also made him aware that some of you have already initiated contact with Omnisky and that Yada better act expediently before they lose any further customers.

To those of you who have already called other services: BE CAREFUL! If Yada is truly not going under, then your hurry to sign on with the competition may leave you stuck with commitments to two contracts.

Eric did say to please bear with them while they correct today's glitches.

See, I think this thread is VERY important. I was about to call Verizon the moment I couldn't get a signal, and last night I was out in Chicago. So I was planning on calling Verizon just to price out.

So Eric (the same person who told me he would call me back numerous times) said that they are still in business. Good, I want to remain with YY. I don't want to pay for roaming or extended use fees.

But, in this era of blowouts with companies, could he just be tried to instill some hope back in their subscribers just like his supervisor told him?

Hmmmmm. I'm in the same area and couldn't get on. I'm getting a #4 error - "Modem gave insufiicient authorization credentials." Anybody know what this is?

Unhappy

Still nothing here in Queens, NY. I don't want to try installing version 4 of the YY software until they've got service up and running again. I hate trying to troubleshoot two problems at once....

Has anyone considered switching to GoAmerica if YadaYada goes down in flames? Omnisky won't work with the Visor Deluxe, but GoAmerica says it will. Plus, they no longer say they charge extra if you use something other than their browser and email software.

I would try the GoAmerica $9.95/month plan for 25k, $.1 for every additional 1k. I don't use my YadaYada account that much, and wouldn't mind turning off graphics.

I've been getting good connection here in Northern Virginia with YadaYada this week.

Good move on your part. I made the mistake of doing it last night. Now I can't get my Visor to recognize that the modem is even plugged in. I know the slot is ok because my MiniJam works fine.

Arghhhh! This may require a hard reset - thank god for the backup module and backup buddy.

Actually that's not entirely true. When I first insert my Minstrel S is starts up the YadaYada Launcher, but it gets hung up and never finishing displaying icons. If I then do a soft reset with the Minstrel, it starts up and then gives me the "Removing Minstrel" dialog screen and then the rest of the system works fine, but doesn't recognize that there's anything in the Springboard.

Any thoughs from the collective wisdom of this group?

Anomaly,

Wait! Before resorting to a hard reset, try this:

1) Go into your Palm Preferences application. In the upper right hand corner (where categories are usualy found), select "Network".
2) Then select "Details", and then "Script".
3) Select "OK", and "OK" again.
4) Then go back to Minstrel application, and try to connect again.

This always works for me, when the Minstrel app cant communicate with the modem.

Good luck,
-cnegrad

"Any thoughts from the collective wisdom of this group?"

One word: OmniSky.

Sorry...I don't mean to be flip - but all of these mysterious problems and errors and failures are the reason I decided to bail out of YY and switch to OmniSky, at least on a trial basis. If I was premature, so be it, but at least I can use my modem again.

I can't give much of a critique of OmniSky yet, as I cannot use it from my home, but I'll be traveling with it again tomorrow and will do a more exhaustive shakedown. So far, in one day's trial, I have been able to receive and send email from my ISP without problems and that is my #1 priority. I have installed the new Beta version of Blazer, which I'll also be trying out.

I really liked YY and bear them no ill will at all, but at this time they obviously have some "issues", as the saying goes. If I am wrong and it all clears up and straightens out I will be very happy for them and for the loyal folks who have hung in there; in the meanwhile I need to use that modem, with which ever service will do the job!

I wish Omnisky was an option, but I'm a Deluxe owner. Thought about doing the upgrade when Omnisky came out, but I had bought my Deluxe from Handspring before they were available retail and never got a receipt from them, so Omnisky wouldn't give me the rebate.

Anyway, it seems that the Yadsa software that is on the ROM in the modem and the new version were conflicting. I deleted anything it would let me, off the Visor and the Minstrel. Then the launcher on the Minstrel worked fine. Reinstalled 4.0 all the way from downloading the file from YadaYada. Ended up with the same problem.

So I've done a hard reset. Reinstalling from my backup module which is 2 days old and will just stick with the earlier version of the software for now.

Cnegrad - I will try your suggestion once I'm back running and see if I get anything working.

Thanks

Have you considered GoAmerica? Their service works with the Deluxe. When Yada dies, that's where I may go.

How's Go America's coverage & software? I know absolutely nothing about them. Do you have a url? I'm afraid that if I go with a "minor player", that they might go belly-up too, and I'll end up at Omni anyway....

Here's hoping YY sticks around...

I don't think they're a minor player. They're URL is www.goamerica.com. They used to have something on their site that said they charged $.10/K extra if you used non-GoAmerica software, but that's not there anymore.

They use the same network that Yada and Omnisky use.

GoAmerica looks great, but on their website, there is no mention of the Visor Deluxe (at least none that I could find). Instead, they say the following

"Go Wireless Now-Add GoAmerica's Minstrel S Wireless Modem Designed Exclusively for the Handspring Visor Platinum and Visor Prism"

So once again, I am left with the same head-shaking feeling I get when considering Omnisky. . . will it, or won't it work on a Vdx?

Hopefully this is all for naught and YadaYada won't be folding their tent soon. (I hope)

Found a YY reference at this link [stay away if you're averse to profanity]:

http://www.f---edcompany.com/

The gist is that Thursday there were going to be layoffs. Not good!

I still have no service from Yada. Im pretty fed-up with this company. Therere not answering their phones, no status updates on their websitenothing. Im ever so close to calling my credit card company and blocking any payments to Yada (If they dare bill me). I know some of you might be saying to give them a chance, "But come on" at least keep us informed if you still want or business.
