Cool

Does the 282 page User Guide that Handspring has on their web page come with the Visor?

You are right Greg, this does suck. I would like to read it away from my desktop but hate to print off 282 pages. A hard copy would be nice, but being able to read it on the Visor would be better. Is there any way the Adobe Acrobat File can be converted to a Palm usable format?

Don't yell at Handspring for this. printing material adds a lot to the cost of a product and is also a standard now days. Almost all products now have electronic manuals. I am an Systems Analyst and all of Microsofts, Mac and Unix products ars shipped like this.

You may get a small quick start manual but all the details are in the electronic manual.

Besides I didn't even read the manual and have not needed it yet. I just skimmed through it for abotu 10 min. It is my first PDA but it all seemed to make sense right out of the box.

If you read my post Babylon5 I stated "A hard copy would be nice, but being able to read it on the Visor would be better. Is there any way the Adobe Acrobat File can be converted to a Palm usable format?"

I agree a hard copy would add to the cost and waste alot of trees, but a Visor friendly format would be handy.

I haven't received my Visor yet but I have already gotten alot of good use from the user's manual in .PDF format. I am trying to acquaint myself with what it does so I can get started right away when it does arrive.

Question

No hard copy is a drag! I'm a little worried because while we're learning how to use this thing; what are we going to do when we're stuck and away from our computers? (Which is most of the time and the reason that we buy Visors) Does anyone know of any other books about the Visor that are (or will be) available? Thanks in advance!

I just coverted the Visor User Guide from PDF to Doc. If anyone would like a copy, just send an email.

The Doc is straight from the PDF unedited, and it turned out to be around 152K.

When I get some "extra" time, I'll edit the text for Visorability. Also, If anyone would like to post it to an FTP site somewhere, you're more than welcome to.

Ahh I'll just go to school and use the laserjet there. They shouldn't mind about the 300 pages.

To convert PDF's to DOC, you first have to own the full version of Acrobat (Exchange), and not just the reader.

Then there is a free plugin named PDF2DOC which can be obtained here: http://www.zorglub.com/pilot/pdf2doc/pdf2doc.html

Pretty handy. Your doc is on the way...

I found this at www.pdfstore.com:

Primer - PDF Viewer for PalmOS and WindowsCE
Ansyr is looking for beta testers for their new PDF
Viewer software for PalmOS and WindowsCE users.
Among other things, Primer will apparently support
zooming, bookmarks and hyperlinks. You can find
out a little more info by heading to Ansyr's site ( http://www.ansyr.com/ )
and while there sign up as a beta tester.

Pretty much all you can do at their site besides look at WinCE screen dumps is email to [email protected]

I'm going to email them and see what they say. I'll keep everyone posted.

There is a plugin for InstallBuddy on their site to allow .pdf files to be viewed on the Visor. http://www.backupbuddy.com

Unhappy

What if you don't have a PC to read the users manual? Not everyone that has ordered from Handspring has a PC.

Personally I don't like the fact that you can't bring the manual on the train, or even to the bathroom to read.

I don't know if anyone would be interested, but I converted the User Guide to a 4-up (4 pages reduced to fit on 1) Acrobat version using a postscript driver.

This reduces the number of pages to 72, but the text is small and the graphics are a little fuzzy.

It'll save a few trees if you'd like to print it out though. Looks half-decent at 600 DPI.

Send me an email if you're interested.
