I was wonderinmg if anyone out there had heard any confirmation on the Quo Vadis HandyGPS module that's said to be coming out on the 25th. I know there was a blurb here on Visorcentral but I hadn't heard anything else or read anything on either website. I believe the website wil be the only place to purchase the modules. If anyone's heard anything let me know, thanks.

Thanks Wizard for the great info. My next ?, andI'll probably e-mail them this one myself, is when will they have European cities support. I'd like a London map before too long.

Do you think the GPS module will be compatible with other mapping programs? Not just the marcosoft program? I know randmcnally has a palm app as well.. Maybe delorme as well..

MikeD, I don't see why it wouldn't work with other GPS software. However, if you have no need for foreign maps, Quo Vadis is tough to beat for US maps.

I have never used a GPS system. I assumed that they were mostly for navigating aircraft and ships, or in other situations where you have no landmarks to find your way back. What kind of applications do you plan on using GPS for? Is it mostly for travellers?

i just looked at the handy Gps web-site and they are saying shipping in April 2000. This just changed a few days ago from saying shipping in Feb 2000. Looks like another delay in the ole springboard development world. http://www.marcosoft.com/quovadishandy/buy.stm

A lot of people use them for travelling in cars. You might want to check out the link to Marcosoft
( http://www.marcosoft.com/quovadishandy ) and read what they have to say about the product, they're pushing the product at business travellers it seems. The module is coming with an 'atlas' for the entire US.

Has anyone heard if you will be able to use the GPS with any of the Topo software that is out there. The web site says that it is NEMA compatible? I would like to use this hiking as well as in my car. I also sent an e-mail on the website but have not heard anything back yet.

Have any of you owned a handheld GPS unit before? I have a Garmin 12 (?) and it's interesting but very annoying. too close to a mountain or building? doesn't work..or takes FOREVER to acquire satellites...heavy overcast? doesn't work or takes FOREVER to acquire satellites.

GPS is fun and all, but i think the technology needs to improve considerably before i buy anything GPS again.

I have a Garmin III+, and it acquires fairly well, even indoors. It does take about 2 minutes in an airplane and I have to be by a window.

However, I like the idea of having my garmin in a good reception area and my visor in an area where I can see the screen easily.
