Prism "death"

Hello, you may remember me from other newbie-ish threads, "sync question" for example..with that being said I have another question. I currently own a Visor Deluxe, and was planning on getting a Visor Neo, but recently I thought that the color prism would be nice. However I am a bit scared of the stuff I hear, battery problems, discontinued, and them freaquintly dieing. If I get a prism..will it in fact die on me, so i wont be able to use it anymore? thanks in advance

New batteries are available. Forgot the link off hand, but you can find it searching this site.

Don't forget, your deluxe and soon to have neo are also pretty much out dated.

The cool thing about being a technological bottom feeder (like me) is that you can get everything much cheaper.

Prisms will be available for quite a while. You can always (or at least for a few years) get parts to fix what you've got or just get a replacement that's used, but in good condition on Ebay.

Only gripe I have against the Prism is the fact you can't really see the screen in broad daylight.

Go for it.

Is that for a new battery? If not some people are stupid...you can buy a used Prism for $125! I bought the prism a few days ago used because I wanted a cheap color PDA and I knew springboards are much, much cheaper. If your worried about the fact it's outdated then buy a Palm m515, however I assume your budget conciencous or you would have a Palm/Sony by now. My only beef with the Prism besides the screen in broad daylight is it's heft! It's nearly twice the thickness of my Sony Clie.

This site seems to be the best...though I bought mine off of a guy from the www.palmblvd.com forums. Of course your not going to get a warranty from a person but mine came with a 2 yr staples warranty so I guess I got lucky. If you want ANY springboards I would suggest waiting until you see a 'package' on these classifieds and snag it. I should have done that since I just bought a prism/camera/mp3 player seperately I paid about $25 more than I should have. I"ve seen alot of Prisms for a good price (find out the age of the Prism, you may need a new battery) here though on EBAY you may get a warranty....just my two pesos.

news.

well..I went to staples a few minutes ago..tried the clie sj20 for 145$, and i was surprised. It is VERY nice for the price..and has so much more apps than visors. Also for a refurb visor neo its 99$, for a NEW sj20 its 145. PLus the screens on the visors look old and grayinsh like an old gameboy, whereas the sj20 is nice smooth and white backlit.

Good-by

I have had my eye on several PDA's since I know my trusty Prisim is about to turn 3. I know it is only a mtter of time before it's batteries will refuse a charge. Was prepare to get a treo 90. until I saw her. the sony sj30 the screen makes the 90 and my Prisim seem primitive. Why did handspring have to go wacko? oh well. Sony at 200 dollars is a great deal even tho it to is discountied/

exactly my point...for 45 more dollars...you can get a hell of a lot nicer PDA that I would be willing to pay 100$ more for. I think handspring is awful expensive..refurbished for 99$..they must be out of thier minds. I'm selling my deluxe for money towards the sj20 then getting it.

Go Color, it is great! I love my Prism. I got it for Father's Day last year and started buying springboards just as prices were dropping. As I am a gadget freak, this was great! I got a Visorphone for FREE before they became "unavailable on the Handspring website" and several other springboards from CompuUSA.com on their blow-out clearance on open-box units, as well as some clearance deals from Wal-Mart, including the eyemodule2 for $40, Magellan GPS for $19 after rebate, and several cheap Franklin e-book modules, and I only missed getting the $90-100 Xircom Wireless Ethernet unit for Wi-Fi.

Also, a NEW (not removed from a used unit and then resold) and higher capacity batteryis available from Laptops for Less (www.laptopsforless.com). I got one and I can go several days of moderate use before recharging (used to be daily and sometimes twice daily!). I think this is because the new battery not only has a higher rated capacity, but also, sitting in storage on a shelf for 1-2 years hurts the capacity of Li-ion batteries, so those slow-moving Prisms had old batteries even when bought new!

On another note thought, I bought a Sony Clie SJ30 for my wife for Christmas. I knew that she did not like using a PDA and did not own one, but I thought that she would enjoy using it to view photos she took with her Sony digital camer on Memory Sticks. Wrong! Her reaction was, "If I wanted a PDA, I would get my employer to buy me one" (she is an IT manager!) so I had to take it back. But I did get to play with it at the store, and if my trusty Prism were to conk out and I could not get a reasonably priced replacement, the SJ-30 is what I would probably get. At least until Treo prices come down substantially! I still have a Visor Pro and Neo as backups for springboard use!

That helped alot..thanks, but If I can't find a Prism far under 145$, I'm not getting it. And anywhere that isnt online doesn't sell the parts (not very conveinient) everything is for the sonys and palms. So wheres a good place to get a CHEAP prism?

Smile Prisms cheap

I bought a used Prism on ebay for about $110, then sent it out for a memory upgrade. So now I have a 16mb Prism and can still use all my springboards. Lots of Prisms listed on ebay.

find a seller with a history of positive feedback and you should be just fine.

I've never been burned on ebay and I've sold well over 100 items and probably purchased 50
