Unhappy My touch screen stopped responding!

My Visor Deluxe's screen no longer responds to taps. I've tried a soft reset, system reset and hard reset. Also, I took out the batteries for a while to do another hard reset.

If it has stopped working due to being dropped, is there a certain place I should look for a loose wire or broken connection? Is there any hope???

Any suggestions or help would be appreciated!

Mine Visor Deluxe has done the exact same thing.

I was driving in my car and talking on my VisorPhone. I hung up and tried to call someone else. At that point it would not work.

It did this to me once before and somehow started working again.

I tried all the same things you did. Plus, I've put new batteries in. After doing a hard-reset, I have tried hot-synching it to put stuff back on it, and it won't let me hotsync. I'm guessing it's because I cannot go through the setup where you have to start the PDA by touching the screen.

PLEASE Someone Help.

Unhappy re: touch screen stopped responding

Well, our solution (it was my Visor, and then my fiancee's) was to get her a new Visor Edge. So now we both have one.

Yeah, we couldn't Sync since the Visor goes automatically to the calibration screen after the hard reset...

That Visor Deluxe was purchased in the fall of '99, so I wasn't too upset, although it is hard to understand why it stopped working since there was no apparent reason for it to stop working (like dropping it, overheating it, etc.).

Arrow re: touch screen stopped working

I should clarify: I'm fairly sure the unit had experienced some minor drops, but nothing right around the time it stopped working...

no screen response either

i'm in the same boat as you guys. my deluxe started acting funny with the screen either not responding sometimes or the cursor flipping thru fields. now i think it's the screen.

i tried a soft reset, the system reset & the hard reset. after the hard reset, i get the general prefs page but the screen doesn't respond to anything. all i can do is turn it on & off at the moment. sometimes when i turn it on, i get the digitizer screen but it's still not responding.

i'm in the process of a power down reset right now but my hopes aren't very high.

i also bought my deluxe in the fall of 1999. i wonder if there's a problem with a batch created in that time frame?

if anyone has solved this problem... i'd love to hear what you did. thanks!

solution

I think i know what your problem is. If you open the case and you notice there is a white ribbon connected from your screen, by that i mean the glass part, to the back of the screen. That white ribbon serves to recognize the "taps" and when it comes off then the screen stills turns on but you wont get a respose. The ribbon is pressure fitted so that might be a possibility of why your screen turns on but doesnt respond to "taps". Instructions on how to take apart your screen and put it back together can be found at www.gethightech.com

fyi, the power down reset seemed to help although it's definitely not 100% back to normal.

thanks for the info on taking the visor apart. that's my next step when i get the time.

This just happened to me, and yet again a few months ago. That is, I dropped my Visor Deluxe and it refused to respond to taps. Here's what I did to fix it both times.

First, I went through the standard set of procedures, in this order:

1. Power off/on.
2. Soft reset (with paperclip in reset hole)
3. Hard reset (paperclip & power switch)
4. Removed batteries for 1/2 hour

None of this worked. I remembered that when I had a similar problem with another PDA and took the PDA apart, I saw that there was a connector to the screen held in electrical contact with the board by pressure. Reasoning that that might be something similar in the Visor Deluxe and that it needed to be sllightly jiggled back into place, I did this:

5. Sharply rapped each corner of my Visor Deluxe against the palm of my hand, checking for a tap response on the screen after each rap. Eventually, this did the trick. (More info: I did several raps in a row with each corner.)

From an earlier post on this forum, I learned that the Visor Deluxe indeed has a screen connector that is held in by pressure. And the post gave a URL describing how to repair screen problems. So, if you don't like the idea of whacking your Visor (however emotionally satisfying it might be), you can do this:

6. Go to http://www.gethightech.com/generic.html?pid=61
and use the directions there as guidline for resetting the connector. This page actually tells how to fix a cracked screen, which you also might find useful.
