I have the EyeModule2 and a 16MB memory module. My wife and I are going on a trip in a couple weeks so my plans are as to take as many pictures as I can with the EyeModule2, then put in the 16MB Module and save the pictures to there, then use the EyeModule2 to take more pictures, then save those to the 16MB Module and so on till we're done or the 16MB Module is full.

The picures are contained in 4 database files so to save them I need to move 4 files. I can do that ok with Filemover but the second time fails due to the files already existing.

I would like to find a way to move the files to the 16MB Module so they would be separate and I could easily tell them apart. I've looked at pz and it does work but among other things you need space in ram to create the pz file. That would cut the pictures I could take in half.

Is there anything like FileMover which comes with the 16MB module that would allow the organization on the 16MB module to include directories? That would be ideal.

pictures and ram.

hi,

i have recently bought a hagiware 16mb flash modual and it comes with the exact file mover application as all the other flash memory moduals built in so it wont take any extra ram. you can view a review of file mover by going to visorcentral, then reviews, then 8mb flash modual. i have had a few small glitches with the modual causing me to soft reset, but other than that i feel i have made a lasting investment.

Results of my testing

Have about 3Meg in the BurkeDB files associated with Eyemodule 2

With the files in RAM
Databag - Fatal Exception when memory fills.
pz - Same result

With the files on the 16MB Hagiwara Module
Databag - Fatal Exception
pz - Same result

So both Databag and pz get Fatal Exceptions either when the memory fills or if the files are on the 16MB Module. That means I only can take half the pictures before pulling out the Eye2 and putting in the 16MB Module, then pack the files using pz or Databag(No compression though), then move the pz or Databag file to the 16MB Module and erase the BurkeDB files. Then reinsert the Eye2. Too much hassle to be of much use while on vacation for the small number of pictures I can take before doing it.

Also tried JackBack. It can write to the module ok with not much memory available although I don't know how much but it can only save 1 generation of the file. The second time it just overlays with the new copy.

Possible solution

Maybe this is simpler than we want to make it.

I've had success with the following procedure:

1) Take pics.

2) Move burke*DB to HS 8M flash module.

3) Take more pics.

4) Using pz or a similar utility, change names of burke*DB by appending the same numeral (1, for example) to their names.

5) Move burke*DB1 to HS 8M flash module.

6) Take even more pics .

7) Hotsync. Success! Pictures transfer to desktop.

8) Delete burke*DB's from handheld memory.

9) Move burke*DB1 from flash module to handheld memory.

10) Remove trailing numeral (1, in this case) from burke*DB1's names.

11) Hotsync. Success! These pictures transfer successfully.

12) Move burke*DB from flash module to handheld memory, overwriting burke*DB's already in handheld memory.

13) Hotsync. Success! Last of pictures sync to the desktop.

I haven't pushed the memory limits and am using an HS 8M flash module instead of the Hagiwara 16M, but I see no reason why it wouldn't work for your setup. You could even move the burkeVGADB to the flash module first because it doesn't compress much, then you would have a bit of room to compress the remaining burke*DB's, which do compress appreciably. Now if I could only work out a similar procedure for my MemPlug!

So by simply renaming your burke*DB's, you should be able to take eye2 pics to your heart's and Visor memory's content. Have a great trip!

Haven't tried the HotSync yet but it appears that the EyeModule2 code doesn't care what the files are named. I added a .1 to the end of each name and then brought up the Eye2 code and it still shows the pictures.

Combiner---an archive app

I just discovered an app called Combiner that will let you make compressed or uncompressed archives. The cool thing is that you can make the archive replace the original, so you don't have to have twice the space. You can name the archives whatever you want, and pack multiple DBs in them. They self-extract, too.

If you choose highest compression, be prepared to wait a while. 6MB->2.2MB in 35 mins. (No compression is speedy, though.) I moved files up and down from Memplug and it all seemed to work ok.

You're right. The PalmOS Eye2 app seems more concerned with the creator code and/or type and will "bind" and send pics to the first DB's it finds in handheld RAM with the proper ID's. Hotsync seems to go by DB name and will fail mysteriously when it doesn't find the appropriately named DB's.
