Nokia 8260?

I went through all the struggles on making the 6162 work and now I am getting a Nokia 8260. Does anyone know if it works with a VPR for web access?

What cables or additional software do I need? Thanks

Startac

I connect through my Startac 7868W using a cable bought on eBay (half the price of the one on cables4pdas.com but considerably shorter). I use AT&T Worldnet, my regular ISP, and can also connect through Verizon, my cell phone carrier. I'm currently using Eudora Suite but am not happy with it and am looking to replace it.

New Data Cable compatibility matrix

There is a very good website that has a matrix of different types of cell phones, and exactly which Visor Data Cable you need to go with that phone and your handheld.

www.pcables.com under "Product Selector"

Note, pcables.com (Purple Data Cables) has many hard-to-find Visor Data Cables in stock along with a very helpful selector guide.

Nokia 6100...

WhyJ,

I have a Nokia 6160i, and your post prompted some research (and hope) on my part. Here's what I have found so far... It seems that with the 39.99 cable from pcables.com and a Nokia data cable, one CAN connect one's visor to one's Nokia 6100 series phone. I have not done it yet, but that seems to be what I am finding out. Further, I have noticed some of those data cables on ebay for around 10 bucks. (the NokiaUSA.com site lists them at 59.99)

I have not tried any of this yet, but I think I will, unless someone with more experience posts here and advises me not to... (Advice I would welcome.)

Nokia 8290 via IR. (See Pic) VoiceStream service. If needed will surf the Web via Blazer and Avantgo. Also use it for Monkey Logo and Monkey Tone. Oh yeah, i also use it to talk once in awhile.

PDCH-M9-6 and Cell Phones it works with

There is a cable from www.pcables.com. It is called the PDCH-M9-6. It works with the Visor Solo, Deluxe, and Prism (not Platinum or Edge.) Here is a list of all of the cell phones it works with:

LIST OF WORKING CELL PHONES WITH PDCH-M9-6 AT PCABLES.COM:
*Audiovox 9000
*Samsung SCH-8500 or 3500
*Kyocera/Qualcomm QCP-860 or QCP-2760 or QCP-2700
*Nextel/Motorola i1000plus (NOT i1000) - Note: you'll need Nextel's "Online Plus" for this one.
*Nokia 6xxx
*Siemens M35, S25, C35 & S35
NOTE: The PDCH-M9-6 is a 6" cable that has a Visor connector on one end and a 9 pin D-Sub male on the other. For this cable to connect with any of these cell phones, it is also necessary to obtain the "PC Data Cable" from the cell phone manufacturer. For instance, the Nokia PC Data Cable's part number is DLR-3. See www.pcables.com for more details.

As well, there is a cable called the PDCH-M9D-6.
LIST OF WORKING CELL PHONES WITH PDCH-M9D-6 AT PCABLES.COM:
*Kyocera/Qualcomm QCP-2035a or QCP-2035
*SprintPCS Touchpoint 2100/2200
The same comment as above applies regarding the necessity of obtaining a PC Data Cable for the cell phone.

The PDCH-M9-6 also works with most GPS units:
Garmin GPS models:
GPS12, GPS12CX, GPS12XL, GPS12 MAP, GPS48, GPS II+, GPS III, GPS III+, Street Pilot, Stree Pilot ColorMap
Garmin eTrex/eMap
Magellan 300 series
Again, a PC Data cable for the GPS is required.

In fact, the PDCH-M9-6 is an RS232 converter - it adapts the serial port on the Visor to True RS232. So in fact, this cable will work with just about any kind of serial device.

There are some that have asked why it is beneficial to purchase a cable such as the PDCH-M9-6 which generally requires a PC Data Cable, as compared to one-piece cable solutions. For instance, one-piece cables are readily available from Visors to Motorola phones. I would say that with a True RS232 adapter such as the PDCH-M9-6, there are 2 key benefits:

*When you are traveling, a True RS232 adapter will allow you plug into anything. It's truly an essential part of your Visor toolkit.

*When a new phone comes out, the PC data cable is generally readily available. If you own a True RS232 cable, you will be able to plug into your new phone right away instead of having to wait for the one-piece cable solution to come out, which could take quite awhile.

Red face Nokia 6100 cont'

"Help me if you can I'm feeling down, and I do appreciate you being 'round..."

Okay, Here's' the deal: I bought the PDCH-M9-6 from the nice purple cable people. My data cord arrived today as well. I have it all hooked up, and I followed the instructions that I found at Markspace (thank you nice folk for posting that stuff) but to no avail. I am trying to connect via my ISP Mindspring I hit the connect button, and nothing happens, and I get an error saying that my modem could not be detected.

Do I need 3rd party software to do this?

"won't you please please help me..."
