Exclamation

I run Windows 98 SE with my Black USB Visor Deluxe. For the past two days, when I've gone to HotSync, the Visor sat waiting for the PC to respond for quite some time. Eventually, the PC quickly showed a message saying it detected a Visor on the USB port and then the HotSync proceeded as usual.

This morning, however, the situation has become worse. Now the PC doesn't even display the "Visor detected on USB port" message. I apparently have no way of Syncing!

I've already tried switching USB ports. I've just tried a reset of the Visor no to avail. I'm going to power down the PC and try again as a last ditch effort.

Any other suggestions?

Well, it is now resolved. I'm not sure which of my final steps remedied the problem, but here's what I did:

I completely shut down my PC and then turned it back on. I also blew off the contacts on both the cradle and the Visor.

So, not it works. Live and learn,

You know, I've had this same problem with Win 98, but I don't have SE installed on my computer. About 70% of the time my BVDlx will sync with no problem. The other 30% of the time, my visor will try to make the hotsync connection, and after a while will just timeout. I can press the button multiple times, or use the software, but there's no avail. It requires me to reset my computer, once the reset is done, my visor will HS fine. This isn't something that is just on my computer. I've tried to hotsync on three differernt machines at different times and I always get the same thing.. about a 70/30% success.

Is my visor broken, should I call Handspring? Or is it something that could be running on all three of the machines i've used? Anyone have any suggestions?

Make sure your visor is not in the cradle while the comp is starting up..if it is then you need to soft reset your visor and then hotsync

I, too, have had sporadic HotSync problems and almost always it is due to Win98SE system resources being low. At about 65% free resources, HotSync fails most of the time. Rebooting the PC always cures the problem. I'm not sure why this happens and I've yet to figure out any solutions. I don't think it's the USB drivers because my other USB devices seem to work even with low system resources.

I've tried rebooting my Win98SE PC as well, but with limited success. I've always had to do a soft reset on the Visor and then it synchs okay.

I have had this problem develop in exactly the same way, first detecting new hardware and then just not syncing.
I have rebooted with the Visor in and out of the cradle, and nothing works. I have rebooted the visor, nothing.
I have even tried syncing with a serial cradle and yesterday that wouldn't work, but today it does!

the first thing to try when your visor just spins it's gears and the 'puter dosent respond is to ****exit hotsync manager**** and then relaunch it! 9 times outa 10 that'll get ya going again.

I had problems with cradles on my work machine (Win2K) and my home machine (Win98SE). I eventually bought 1 USB cable. It works every time, though I have to manually run Hotsync to start the process. I'm now thinking about buying a second cable for my other machine. The cables hook to the Visor in a much more secure manner than the cradle does. I'm convinced that there's some sort of design flaw with the cradles as I sometimes have to rock my Visor to get it to be seen, and other times have to push down on my Visor during the entire sync process.
