Red face Gas for 84 cents a gallon!

The station outside my place has been selling gas for $1.06 for several days now, but I had seen in the Greenville News that a new station in Simpsonville, (the next town over) was selling gas for 99 cents. Well, a gas war has ensued between that station and the one across the street. As of last night the price has dropped to 84 cents a gallon. One of the stations sold 35,000 gallons in one day.
After the high prices we've seen I thought we may never see gas for under a buck again, but even the average price of $1.11 here is getting pretty close!

As of Wed. their prices had dropped to $0.69, but South Carolina state law prohibits a gas war lasting more than two weeks. I'll be ready for a takful before then.

Why are people always trying to get cheaper gas?

My dad will drive to a different town to save $.04 a gallon!?

We spend $30,000 on giant SUVs and then go out of our way to save $0.50 per fill up.

Why aren't smart cars sold in the U.S. yet? ( http://www.thesmart.co.uk/ )

(BTW, anyone own one of these? Thoughts? I REALLY want one!)

Cool

I went to fill up the other day and the attendent was remarking about how high gas was. He looked very surprised when I told him it really didn't matter to me. I own a Honda Civic that at the time I bought it, it was the highest mileage car available in the U.S. Now, only the hybrids and the newer models are higher.

I really don't care what the price is - my car sips it. What I care about is availablity and with gas prices floating like they do, it looks like it will just be a matter of price for some time to come.

Kind of fun to look at the big SUVs, trucks, etc. and know that their drivers are paying through the nose for the status. I just want to get where I'm going.

It's too small. Americans want big big big!

Americans want to cart around as much stuff as they possibly can at any time that they want, even though the majority who have that kind of vehicle never do. Big huge pickups when they never have to haul anything, multi-passenger vehicles for single people, 4-wheel SUV's when they live in the city and never go outside of it. (Not everyone does this, of course; my father doesn't haul anything in his pickup anymore but he did when he got it.)

It's too young a country. no maturity.

PS, I've only seen the Smart cars down at the hobby shop on the model shelf.

I tend to agree somewhat. What makes me laugh is these teeny tiny housewives that ride around in these ford expeditions, sittin on 8 phone books barely peeking over the steering wheel. These ladys would get there ass stuck in the cup holder i bet. Me I have the 4WD suv. But im 6'4 long legs. I cant fit in most cars. Plus I like to haul a lot of crap like sports equip, Road Kits like air compressors and such, plus all my paintball gear fills that to the brim. Ill need the 4wd not to go off road but for the bad winters here in PA.

I dont care about it at all, what i want is those damn old people out from behind the wheel! I hate those!

And the teeny tiny housewives DON"T need 4wd vehicles for the bad winters here in PA?????? oh and our kids also don't need to haul their sports equipment around?? I'll sleep better tonight knowing that you have justified driving an SUV because of your height.
I personally don't drive one NOW but if I did and I wasn't asking you to pay for my gas WHY even concern yourself with what someone else drives.

Yeah why not get a subaru. Something they can handle. I speak of this after being hit twice by women. One who ran a stop sign and one who failed to stop at a red light. Both women, both driving cars way to big for them. Now I guess I shouldnt generalize all women being bad drivers but i had enough encounters to base a strong opinion. Id say get a mini van but I dont even wanna start with most people who drive those! If i could fit in a regualr size decent priced car id have one. Im somewhat forced to buy something that is high off the ground and has more leg room. I hardley fit in the SUV im in now.

my concern is more for the idiot doing the driving than whatever it is they're driving.
"driving" is a misnomer for an automobile anyway.

Angry The problem I have with SUVs....

The problem I have with SUVs has nothing to do with the vehicles gas consumption, since that is the owners problem. The problem I have is that when stupid drivers do something illegal in an SUV, it's more irritating and hazardous to me. For example, plenty of people park too close to driveways but SUV are particularly onerous because you can't see thru their high off the ground windows, so the only way you can pull into traffic is to blindly stick your car's nose out into traffic, and if nobody tears off your front bumper then you may consider it safe to enter the traffic lanes. At least with a normal car I could see oncoming traffic thru the windows. Stuff like this makes me wish I could put a periscope on my Saturn .
