Question Fatal Exception

When trying to do a hot sync on my Visor Deluxe with my serial cradle I continuously get the Fatal Exception dialog box. I have performed soft reset, system reset and last night a hard reset then restore from my backup module.
The backup worked fine (first time I've checked it) but I still get the FE error...
Does anyone know the pin connections on the serial cradle. I'm starting to suspect that it has been damaged or something.
TIA,
Calpilot

Jim from Modesto

Are you syncing with the backup module in the Visor? If so, that may be causing the error. If not, what's the last couple of apps you installed on the Visor? They may be the culprits.

No module in place

No, I did a new backup after the first Fatal Exception error but then took it back off.
I haven't installed any new apps since September when I installed thumbboard. If I can't find anything wrong with the cradle cable, I'll remove it and see... Will let you know.
Thanks

Check the HotSync log to see if it might give a clue as to where the error is happening.

Old Log

The only thing in the hot sync log is the last successful one in Sept.
It doesn't start to sync. As soon as I press the hot sync button on the cradle, the error flashes on the screen.

Can you be more specific about the error? Are you getting it on the Visor or on the PC?

On the Visor

The 'Fatal Error' dialog is on the visor. Inside the box on the visor screen is just the message 'Fatal Exception'. It flashes up instantaneously when the hotsync button on the cradle is pressed.
I unplugged the serial cable and re-connected it thinking maybe a pin had corroded, but still the same...

Does it work ok right after a Hard Reset (before Hotsync or reloading from the backup module)? If so, you have a corrupted app or database. Every time you try to get your stuff back, the corrupted file gets transferred back.

The cure for this problem would be to:
1) Hard Reset. Check if everything works ok.
2) move everything out of your Backup folder on the PC.
3) HotSync in your basic apps - Datebook, AddressBook, etc. Check if ok.
4) copy a few items back into the Backup folder, the Hotsync. Check if ok.
5) repeat (4) until you have problems.

I had to do the same thing once. I got to R-S-T before I found the bad app (RaceFever or SpaceTrader).

Will Try

Thanks,
That is the one thing I have not tried. I used the restore before trying it after the hard reset. I will give this a try and see if it is ok after the hard reset.
It will be tomorrow before I have time to do this tho... Will let you know how it works out.

Thumbs up It Worked

That did it!!! Thanks!!! It turned out to be either Thumbboard or Niggle...
I'll have to reinstall one of them to be certain which is the culprit. Anyway I'm back hotsyncing like mad...
