what is the sim card?

My visorphone suddenly stopped ringing or vibrating or making noise!

So I ahve to exchange, and want to keep the SIM card. I was originally trying to pry out what I now think is the socket, not the card.

Am I correct that the Sim card is just a wafer thin piece that slides out and seems to have a hologram on the reverse side?
