Springport Ethernet?

Simply, is it worth it?

I would buy it if it were around $100.

It depends on your needs. If you aren't using the sprinboard slot for a memplug and you're mobile in a 802.11b network and need to access email or intranet/web docs or have some kind of remote admin thing to do then yes. Otherwise.....it's kinda hard to justify unless you have a specific need.

I have it at work and it does work well but I don't have access points deployed throughout the building yet. Plus I have tons of crap on the memplug so I'm hoping the clipon keyboard/802.11b device dematerializes this fall or first of the year.

I have a flash module with games, but all my work stuff is on the device, mostly IS info. I have an Airport and one building to work in, so it's fine, and I have an iMac at home to use as a base station, so...

I just want to know: is it fast enough? What are the applications that are productive using it? Is it worthwhile ? (not just worth the money, that's way too relative!)

It works well. But you don't get the full 11Mbps speed(I think that was discussed in previous posts...) I had a connection set up for a while that worked really well where I used autosync and avantgo a lot and would sync avantgo channels every hour and email every 15m. While I was about 50ft down the hall doing upgrades for a few days. Kept me in touch.

Palmgear has a prog called rapidsurvey or something that I intend to try. Lets you admin all machines in network through IIS. Look at processes, kill them, reboot machines and servers. That would be an excellent app to use with the springport! Lets you unlock domain accounts to! Essential where I work.

Is it worthwhile? Yes. Is it worth it......depends on how much you'll use it.
