From the press release:

Available immediately in three metallic colors at Handspring.com, and in select retail stores across North America and English-speaking regions throughout the world by the end of the month, Visor Edge will sell for U.S. $399.

I saw one in a CompUSA store in Virginia on Monday, although it was one of those non-working models and had no cover on it. I didn't get a chance to ask if they had them in stock or not.

Also...

Also a reminder that only blue and silver are offered in stores. You can only get red through Handspring, as per the press release.

Cool

I got mine today (Metallic Silver) at Fry's Electronics in San Jose. They are now officially in retail distribution.

They still aren't even listed on the CompUSA web site. Curiously enough, none of the HandSpring products are listed.

They used to be on the CompUSA web site. It is great to know that they are rolling out to the stores quickly. I'll check them out this weekend. They are going to need the head start against the M5 series. I prolly won't upgrade till summer though.

DARN, THAT THING IS little

After reading about the edge here and looking at the handspring web site, I was not impressed with it, but now...

I just stopped into office max and saw it on display. You dont really get a feel for how small and LIGHT it is from pictures on the PC screen. the screen looks a lot better too. It is really impressive. I have a vaja case cause i wanted a stylish way to carry my visor without the goffy buldge in my front pocket. I should have waited for the edge and saved the $60.

I have read up on the m505 and it looks really nice, but I think the edge is going to replace my vdx when it finally gives up the ghost.

Two points just in case handspring reads this board.
1.) Please include more than 8mb in future units, I NEED AT LEAST 12MB, I have become spoiled by my flash module.
2.) Make the thing last longer. I already have worn out two buttons (one is the power button) on my deluxe after 13 months of ownership. I think for the price, that it should last longer. I don't play games or anything else to wear out the buttons, they just aren't very good. this is really the only reason I didnt buy the edge tonight. I hesitate because I want a handheld which will still work like new a year from now, especially for $400.

Arrow No wear

The Edge does not have buttons that can wear out. The symbols are actually engraved into the buttons, not painted.

I saw the Edge at Office Max yesterday. It was still in the box, and they said they haven't gotten a display unit yet.

I'm in Houston, TX.

I just checked out the Edge at CompUSA in Mesa, AZ. The unit looked good. It felt solid as a rock, and the stylus wasn't as bad as I imagined. The screen is the best monochrome screen I have ever seen on a PDA. However, the thing was having digitizer problems. No matter where you touched the screen or the grafiti area, the drop-down menu would appear. I think they have a quality control issue on the Edge right now.

God, this is really getting scary! I have an Edge that has given me no problems whatsoever since the day it arrived. But I'm wondering if this is issue waiting to happen. I have an order for a Palm M505 from PalmStore that I was going to cancel because of the poor screen. Now I don't know what to do?

I had this same problem on my Platinum, before I upgraded to a Prism - they had no problems replacing it - only took a day or two to get the new one.

(no, they didn't replace the platinum with a prism, I sold the replacement platinum to a friend and bought a new prism)

Lucky, you got to see one at OfficeMax. They must have a different policy than Staples. Staples near us just got the Edge in this weekend. But, when I asked to see the whole thing, including the Springboard adapter, the "associate" in the business machines area said, "no you can't see the Springboard adaptor, 'cuz its back in the back locked up, and I don't know where it is." I said, "look, I am not making a $400 purchase decision here if you aren't going to show me the whole deal." "Too bad," he retorted, so I echoed his sorrow and walked out. Don't know too many retail businesses that treat folks that way. Anyone else had less than helpful "associates" in their retail search for the the Edge?

Not about the Edge in particular, but too often I find either clueless or unhelpful people in large department stores or electronics stores. Although sometimes you really have to see a product first (e.g. a PDA), these days I rely more and more on the web for useful info and for actual purchases.

The thing to do in retail stores is to find the one person at the one store that does know what's going on and is willing to help, and then stick with him/her... even if it takes an extra week or month for that store to get the VE's, I'd rather be giving my $400 to them instead of Schmozzy at Sales-R-Us.

I went to my local Staples to check it out. They had one on display to hold and look at. But like most every other item there, it was not charged, so I was not able to turn it on and "play".

Nice feel to it (And now I understand how the stylus is attached).

But I will not switch from my Prism until it has color.
