Does it bother anyone else that HS includes a stock stylus that is too light and scratches the screen?

I dont know anyone who actually _uses_ the stock stylus, and clearly HS was not expecting us to do so: the replacement pack was ready to ship with the oringal units. The fact that they sell the replacement only as a $16 five pack also makes it seem like they just want to milk us for some extra dough for a decent pen.

It seems that shipping the Visor with the colroed deluxe styli would have been a classy move. The Palm V model comes with a deluxe style pen. In the long run it would probably save them money on replacing damaged screens as well.

There have been several reports that newer Visors are now shipping with a deluxe stylus. Handspring might do better by offering the 5-pak in all the same color along with the rainbow assortment. I also think they should sell single ones at a reasonable cost with FREE shipping. In the long run it WOULD save them big time and go a long way in terms of customer service.

Insult AND injury!!

I wasn't lucky enough to get a premium stylus with my visor, but I was lucky enough to buy writerights the day after I bought my visor, and I was very careful until they were installed. Even so, there are some very fine scratches on my grafitti area from the stock piece of crap.

The "rainbow pack" bothers me, the 5 at once thing bothers me, and the $8.50 shipping bothers me.

Other than the above, I LOVE MY VISOR!!

You're right, the whole "deluxe stylus rainbow pack" package is a sham. I can only imagine that the plastic molding must have cost a fraction of what tooling a metal unit would have. And who would want a five pack with four styli of the wrong color?

I bought a second Visor last month at Staples, and it had the same plastic stylus that came with my original Visor. If Handspring's including a better stylus with the new units, they're not very consistent about it.

One thing that I would like is for some company to make a stylus with exactly the same form and color as the plastic styls, but made of metal instead.

Handspring has sure created a niche on e-bay by only offering a multi-color five pack. I've seen a singe graphite stylus go for over $16.

The good thing is that if you are patient you can get a new styus for around $5 on e-bay. Sign up for PayPal and collect $5 and you've got a new stylus for around $2 shipping.

I did even better than that. I bid on a green stylus and someone got me confused with the seller and signed up for PayPal using me as a referral. I ended up with a $5 credit for just bidding on a stylus.

Got that beat. I signed up for paypal two months ago and got $10 credit. After I bought a green stylus and shipping I had $5.30 left!!

I really don't see what the big deal is with the rainbow pack. I have a BVx and the ice stylus fits me just fine. My dad have a GV and the green stylus suits him just fine. Are we really that much concerned with color? And also there are many schams on ebay, many people bit high prices and they end up not paying, so never look at the final price as an indicator.

Unhappy

EBay seems to be the only recourse for gettin a good stylus without paying $25 bucks for it and having 4 extra wrong color ones.

I have gotten a couple of them for pretty cheap (the last one for $5.25 including shipping).

I'm new to the ebay experience, though, and am learning Billy is right - people bid and then don't pay: I listed the leather slipcase that came with my VDX and it went for $12.50. I haven't heard from the guy.

A friend of mine here at work (after seeing my IVD) ordered a Visor and it was shipped with the delux stylus. That was about two weeks ago. I have heard both sides of the fence here. At first, I figured it was oversight on HS part... maybe they periodically run out of cheap plastic and are forced to send delux styli just to keep the orders processed.

And yeah, the 5 pack is in my opinion a sham. I have hovered over the "buy" button on more than one occasion. I just can't justify paying that much shipping for 4 syli that I don't need. There is absolutely no reason they can't sell them in groups of three of the same color, and charge actual shipping costs. Their idea of a bargain has driven me to purchase two delux styli from ebay.... my brother calls it "evil-bay" 'cause he spends so much money there.

Lightbulb

I'm not comparing retail ecommerce sites like Handspring to bazaars like eBay. It's a matter of common sense: people want a sylus that matches their Visor, and most people are buying the stylus pack just for themselves, not for several people with different colored Visors. Why not have five styli of one color in each pack? Why include four styli that don't match your Visor? Granted, it's not a moral outrage (like, say, Active Desktop), but it is dumb. Let's just say it makes the difference between my wanting to buy the multi-pack and looking at other stylus options.
