Unhappy Prism freezes up with modules, help!

I have a question about my prism (I just bought it used..I think the warranty has expired already). Everytime I plug a module in the springboard slot the screen freezes up and I have to remove the module and do a soft reset. I looked for bent pins on the inside of the slot, but they seem to be fine. Any ideas about what might be causing this? any ideas of how to fix it? it's a shame because the other functions work flawlessly.

Yuck

No, unfortunately, I have never heard of this happening upon insertion of a module. My Prism always froze up when *removing* a module unless you used on of the hard buttons on the bottom to change applications first...

Sorry can't be of more help. Have you searched the archives to see if anyone else had this issue?

Thank you!
I haven't found any other info on the subject...only that sometimes the pins inside the springboard slot could be bent (it doesn't seem to be the case). I am thinking it might be something loose inside (springboard connection?). Maybe it's something easy to fix..
I will keep looking for information.
Thanks again!

Does it happen with more than one module?

Yes, it happens with all of them (I have the eyemoulde, golf, chess, backup, etc.). Every single time I put one in, it inmediately freezes the screen and have to reset. I even trying resetting it with the modules on..and the screen suddenly fades away and become blank (just backlight)..
Thanks!

Hmmm. Well, if it is outside the warranty period, you may have nothing to lose. I would say contact Handspring, but I have read on here that their customer support is kind of lacking.

Hate to ask you to Hard Reset, but maybe a driver got corrupted. The driver would be restored after the Hard Reset. At least this is cheaper than trying a repair.

download the latest palm desktop (I believe 4.something) and hotsync. with the latest palm desktop it stores ALL of your programs/preferences/etc. so that if you do a hard reset it will restore EVERYTHING! Great idea...heck I'm not even going to get the backup module now...

No backup module? If something happens when you are at work or on travel, they you would be out of luck until you got back to your PC.

That happened to me once. I almost had Palm withdrawl symptoms - that feeling of losing half your brain power.

em1 needs that patch!

em1 needs that patch!
doesn't it?
i think i remem em2 was sort of made more for the Prisms at-that-time-advanced-OS, and em1 couldn't work w/it
and maybe after you inserted this, it kind of corupted the springboard slot for theothers?
and that'swhy you have to hard reset now?
just my $.2

Dude...

Well, the Hotsync restores most things, but often you have to reinstall Third Party Software (after finding it on your C: ). Then, if you have registration codes, sometimes you have to relocate those, etc. etc.

Dude, get the Backup Module. It saved my butt many a time!!

No need to reinstall 3rd party software nor re-enter passwords etc. I have pocket quicken, etc. and I did not need to re-enter my registration code, same with other programs. Of course having the back-up module certainly cannot hurt, I will snag one if I find one at wal-mart, etc.

I think it depends on the app. I have had to slog through old emails trying to find registration codes in the past to re-enter.

I store my Reg Codes in TopSecret Mobile. If I can get TopSecret working after a crash, I am all set. It's database seems to get HotSync'ed reliably.
