Best Buy Sucks

Best Buy sucks. ChumpUSA isn't much better, though.

Wal-Mart is actually the best at returns, you can sometimes even bring in something without a receipt and they will give store credit or a gift card!

Of course, all the Wal-Marts I have been to are chock-full of hillbillies... they drive me insane and I tend to avoid the place like the plague.

I have actually used my Best Buy warranty on my Prism and they were great. I dropped my first Prism and within ten minutes of walking into the store I was on my way out with a new unit. Once I showed them my receipt where I purchased the warranty, they immediately replaced the unit. As for the associate telling me I could return my Prism and get the Clie with no questions asked, well, I would have to try it and see before passing judgement. If it is their policy to allow this, I would be very surprised. I just cannot see how they would make a profit allowing people to trade in equipment and only pay the difference. However, they have repeatedly told me I could this, so I may just take them up on the offer when (and if) Handspring releases a new color device.

This does not mean that my OVER-ALL experience with Best Buy has been a great one. I have had my share of problems as well. Regardless, I still somehow manage to find ways to give them my money.

Question Six Times a Charm????

I've used my extended warranty five times at BB. Three times to swap-out my VDX, once to upgrade to Plat, and once to replace what I thought was a defect of the casing of my Plat. The last time, I wasn't sure if they were going to allow the exchange, but did. I am close to trading up to the Prism, but figure I only have one more chance to utilize the warranty before they send mine out for repair (EEEKKK!).

The clerk sold it to me as "technology insurance" for three years. I stopped in there about a week ago and overhead the same rep use the same line to sell it on a Palm Vx. I'm about ready to wear a wire (too much Miami Vice) and get his sales pitch on tape.

If you go in and "have a problem" with your current device, ask for a swap, and say "hey, actually, do you mind if I just pay the difference for that one?", it'll work wonders.

In fact, the associate was telling a Customer all about the warranty and how he could trade in for a newer model. Very interesting to hear not all stores agree.

Which Atlanta store did you buy your CLIE from? Is there anything in writing that they will do this? Did you trade the old CLIE for the new onw, or did you change brands?

I apologize for the confusing way I stated this. I have not exchanged my Prism, I still own it. I do not own a Clie, old or new. The point that I was trying to make was that the associate at BestBuy "offered" to allow me to upgrade. At the same time, he was telling another customer the same thing.

"If you have the 3YR warranty you can exchange your PDA for a new one and just pay the difference."

He even went so far as to say he had done the same thing 3 or 4 times with his PDA's.

Again, I apologize for not being more clear. I have used my warranty, but only when I dropped my Prism and exchanged it for another Prism. I have never attempted to just walk in and "trade" my Prism for a newer model.

By the way, I purchased my Prism at the Kennesaw location and also exchanged it there when I dropped it. I was at the Alpharetta location when the asscociate was telling me I could "trade-up".

Thumbs up Cost of BB 3-Year Plan...

The BB 3-year plan costs about $60, I think.

Lightbulb Not to go off on a tangent here...

...but this is as good a time/place to start some RAMPANT SPECULATION!

Does anyone here think that one of the motivating factors behind HS's Prism price drop, aside from trying to match the m505 at the register, is the potential for a SuperVZ-based Prism (or Color Edge) running at 66MHz?

Now, I'm not normally one to go in for RAMPANT SPECULATION!, but it would be a nice kick in Palm's hinder - "Sure, you've got your form factor and your postage stamp memory card, but can you play Zap2016 THIS FAST without over clocking? I THINK NOT!" =)

What do you think, sirs?

rampant speculation

well, I would guess the color edge model might be in the cards, but I bet it's at least a month or two off..

As for the faster processor, I read they won't even be available til 4Q, so that is unlikely...
