Can someone explain how I copy email from my PC onto my Visor so I can read it from my Visor? I'm not trying to receive email on my Visor with a modem, I just want to synchronize my email from AOL onto my Visor so I can read it away from my desk.

I don't think it's possible to sync with AOL mail. That's because AOL keeps the mail on their servers, and it's not downloaded to your pc like a typical ISP with a POP mail client such as Eudora, Netscape Communicator, or Microsoft Outlook.

AOL does have an email client for the Palm OS, however it requires the ability to dial-in via modem from the Visor (and they don't specifically state it even works with the Visor). You can check it out at AOL keyword ANYWHERE.

I think there is some prog at palmgear.com called AOLFlash or something like that - it lets you sync your AOL mail on your Visor (if I remember that right; I do not use AOL so I am not sure).
Alternatively you can get a free email address at hotmail or yahoo and forward your AOL mail there and then use OutlookExpress to sync it on your Visor. Just make sure to get the newest version because http://www.palm.com/support/helpnotes/3rdparty/oe5.html .
The second possibility is rather awkward, so you might check palmgear.com first.

I just checked palmgear.com. In addition to the prog that MarkEagle mentioned (wow, when I started posting your post was not there yet - must have happened simultaneously ) there is a prog called PocketFlash. The description is a little unclear with respect to whether you need a modem for you Palm/Visor or not. But I guess the latter might be true - but check it out nevertheless...

Thanks to Andrew, Mark and mc9 for the great info!! I tried to download a demo of the software described in the Calvin's link; it was a major pain, took forever to download, and then it wouldn't run! Needless to say I'm not going to be ordering it any time soon. As for AOL Mail, it probably requires a modem to run the software (AOL says that the software "may not" run without a modem). I don't understand why my PC's modem can't receive the email when I'm online and download the email automatically onto my Visor. Seems pretty obvious, huh? I haven't checked out the PalmFlash software, but that seems like the next step. When I do check it out (maybe one night this week) I will post my findings here for the next AOL victim.

Thanks Felipe, I'm glad to know that there's something out there that works with AOL! I'm still in search of something that doesn't require a modem, though, I guess PocketFlash is my next try.

This is a bit old, but worth a try:

"TransAOL is a PC based application to be used with the Pilot from US Robotics and America Online. It allows you to send the Email written on the Pilot, and to download any messages you received through AOL. In fact, you can download any of the messages stored in your Personnal Filing Cabinet ; Email as well as Newsgroups messages. It has been tested with America Online V3.0and V2.5, US and international version."

Bjornsen, this sounds interesting but it might be pretty old, since AOL is now on version 5.0 and is beta testing its next version. However, there might be updates/upgrages available for TransAOL. Where did you hear about this product? Have you ever used it? Any info would be great.

Thanks Charo, I'm going to give it a try. Have you tried it? Does Pilotnet replace Hotsync Manager (in other words, do you sync through pilotnet and not through hotsync manager)? That's not clear.

You read my mind,I've been thinking about the Thincom modem too! How does it work? Does it allow you to download email while you sync in the cradle? Does it work like Netpilot and act as a redirector to sync email with AOL? How do you like it?

The Thincom for AOL mail worked perfect. Simple and easy to set up both the Thincom and download AOL Mail and sign on the first time. AOL mail works exactly like it does on your computer now, the only difference is that it's on the Visor instead. No HotSync, no cradle involved other than initially to install AOL Mail software on the Visor.

The mail that you read and/or send on the Visor can be saved in the file cabinet exactly the same as on your computer now. Also all mail you send or receive on the Visor is also stored in your computer mailbox automatically.

AOL Mail on the Visor can be set up so that everything is automatic. As soon as you're signed on all incoming mail is downloaded to the Visor and all mail waiting to be sent, is sent. Then your signed off.

Which is what you want to do to save that Visor battery. I have a 2 day old set of the new Energizer Titanium batteries. It scares you how fast that battery icon goes down. It does come back up -- slowly over a few minutes time.

No one is going to be Internet surfing without buying a case of batteries first. But I am fixen to try it anyway as soon as I download and set up FreeWWWeb.com

Thincom, Visor & AOL Mail work perfectly.
