In election 2000, who did you vote for? If I was voting age, I'd have voted for Gore, as unentertaining as that might have been.

Isn't this topic pretty untimely?

I voted for "Nadar" (spelled "Nader"; "Buchanon" is spelled "Buchanan").

It's not really untimely. The was another post critsizing Dubuya, so I wondered what most of Visor Central thought.

I voted for Abraham Lincoln! He would be rolling over in his grave if he knew what slick Willy did in his bed!

Seriously, I didn't like either candidate. That's what surprised me about the public outcry of support for their choice. The day before the vote...no one cared. The day after, the entire population of North America is on the verge of tearing itself apart over two screwballs who aren't worth a second look.

There were quite a few options not named "Bush" or "Gore." Too bad that too few people knew that.

I'm also not old enough to vote but in this poll my vote went to Gore. It seems that VC is comprised of mostly Bush supporters but why is this topic being introduced into VC anyway?

A vote for Nader is a vote for Bush. I wanted Gore to win. Gore did win. . . Don't get me started. I'm not even voting age. . .

Also ernieba1 was supposed to be pig latin for bernie. I just forgot to put in the Y. Just setting it staight.

No. A vote for a particular candidate is a vote for that particular candidate. A vote for mickey mouse is a vote for mickey mouse.

If people would realize that, we wouldn't be stuck with two dominating parties.

Gore won the popular vote...he got more votes. However, that is not how we declare a winner in this country, so while he won the election, he did not win the presidency.

We rip on Bush right now (some of it he deserves, some of it not) but I actually think we'd be saying the some of the same things had Gore been elected.

I know a lot of people that voted for Bush who have since regretted doing so. I think this past election has shown a light on the problem with voting strictly down party lines.

The popular vote is meaningless in U.S. Presidential elections. If people would realize that, we wouldn't be stuck with lots of whining.

No, he did not even win the election. If he'd have won the election, he'd be POTUS. Again, the popular vote means nothing WRT U.S. Presidential elections. If some state decided to hold an arm-wrestling match to determine which electors they wanted, that'd be just fine.

I know I would be. They were both extremely poor choices for President, and, if one looks at them with a critical eye, not really much different. The only difference seems to be the rhetoric.

Ditto for Algore.

If people didn't know that lesson prior to the election, I doubt if they received enlightenment after the fact.

Toby:

I was going to rebut your comments, but I think you said the same thing I did.

But, to clarify:

Gore DID win the election. The election is when all of the people of this country cast a vote for the president. He won that. He won the election.

AFTER the election, the Electoral College meets to submit their choice for predident. Bush won that.

Gore won the election. Bush won the electoral college.

I do realize that the election is not what directly decides the presidency.

If you look at the voting map, it sure looks like Bush won by a TON. I know that it is really a representation of land area votes, but Bush won the heartland of America, which I truly feel represents what most people think. My biggest concern over Algore was that he was a liar. Some things cannot be tolerated...Also, his position on the environment is baseless. There is absolutely no basis for it in fact. Mostly based on worst case, what if scenarios.
