Question

I would like to hear about the setup of anyone who has had error free Hotsync success (or as close to that as possible). WIN versions, USB or Serial (if USB PCI card.. which type), settings, etc. Would be great. This is all interesting...

I have never had a problem hotsyncing. I set-up my visor, set-up the software on the pc, pushed the hotsync button on the cradle, and everything went fine. A few times, it didn't hotsync, and I would push the button again and it worked fine. I have win98SE, USB cradle, USB intergral to motherboard.

Me too. Not too much of a problem when Hotsynching to my win95 laptop. Rarely do I have to hit the Hotsync button twice.

But I do get intermittent problems with the Hotsynching with my Mac. Sometimes the Mac freezes after the Hotsync is complete.

the only problem i've had hotsyncing is an occasional timing problem with my pc at work.

i'm using win98se and a via tech. usb addon card.

other than that...all's well here.

I have had no problems hotsynching on my work PC (Win NT 4.0 SP4) or on my home PC (Win 98 SE).

I did try hotsynching with USB on a Win 2000 PC and found that that did not work.

Well, I've hotsynced with no problem. Windows 98 (that takes on average 3 attempts to get to boot), an AMD K6/233 with motherboard built in USB.

Windows 98 is freaky, but I have too much USB stuff to use anything else.

BTW, will the Visors be compatible with USB 2.0? It's supposed to run at near firewire speeds.

Angry

I have had my Visor Deluxe around a week now and have found the following "issues" using it on my MacOS9 machine.

1) I had been using MacPac as a calendar for quite a while and had upgraded to v 2.5. The Visor ships with 2.1 with the HotSync Manager with USB support added. I have an iMac at home so I can use the USB functions. Unfortunately I had to install 2.1 from the Handspring CD in order to get things to work. Also it seems that it is possible to end up with a mix of extensions in the system folder if you try to use a 2.5 Hotsync Manager with 2.1 Palm Desktop. This leads to Hotsync errors.

Trashing all Palm extensions and apps and reinstalling Handspring software from the CD solved the problem.

2) Instant Palm Desktop seems t be in conflict with or incompatible with MacOS9.

3) Using the User Data from my 2.5 Palm Desktop calendar in the Handspring 2.1 required me to do a merge to get the data to conform to the fields in the 2.1. After doing this I had only a minor amount of clean-up to rebuild the contact categories.

Other than that it's cool and everything I wanted my Newton(s) to be. Of course your results will vary.

Unhappy

I run Win2000 RC 2 and the USB cradle drivers don't work. I'm assuming the serial cradles do work, but Handspring says it would take at least 4 weeks just to get a cradle! I already have a PalmIII serial cradle but of course the Hotsync connectors on the unit are different.

Anyone have any ideas on how to Hotsync with Win2000?

I've heard that RC3 is supposed to be much better at this than RC2 is. I've been waiting to throw Win2k on my machine till RC3 mainly for this reason. One of the product managers up at Microsoft told me we should see it on Monday (11/15).

I have never had any problems hotsyncing, even though I beam data to/from my Palm III and Visor.
