Question

My question to all of you is:

Is there a cigarette lighter adapter for the Prism? If there are multiple adapters, which (IYHO) is the best?

There are some on ebay for $40 (buy it now) but you might be able to get it for less. ($25 looks like the reserve) Search for visor charger.

I have seen the car charger for Prism on www.talestuff.com

I want one too. I like to NEVER worry about a low battery.

I make an adaptor that plugs into the bottom of the Prism
and allows the cradle charger to plug in for charging on
the road. You can get a DC cord from Wal-Mart for about $15
that will plug into my adaptor. I sell them for $15 plus
shipping. Same type of adaptor that is sold on talestuff.

Hmm, I don't suppose there is a cable like the Mark/Sapce Data cable that also has the power pins hooked up? I already have a Mark/space cable for use with my eTrex, but it would be cool if I could keep my Prism charged while using the GPS.

Check out this site

You might wanna check out this site. They have a car charger, and a USB charger for the prism. I think the car charger is$14, but the company is in Hong Kong so who knows how long it would take to get here.

Visor Data Cable with Power

I have made a working prototype cable which is a combination serial cable and power cable for Prism. It is used to connect something like a Cigarette Lighter Adapter(CLA) to a RS232 Serial cable; then the Visor Prism can be powered from the CLA while it's connected to a GPS! For a particular GPS (say the Delorme Earthmate) you can also power the GPS at the same time (turns out the EM is powered from pin 9.)

More of these type of cables could be made. If you're interested in such a thing, email [email protected]. I can guarantee you such a thing can be done (it has been, and it works.)

Check out www.pcables.com for the type of serial cables available (though no power cables are on that site, yet.)

Power cable now available

There is now a cable which can do the following (simultaneously):
* Provide power to a Visor Prism
* Provide power to a GPS (through pin 9 of a male 9 pin Dsub)
* Provide the RS232 interface between Visor and GPS

The cable has two leads coming out of it to which an external 6v power source is connected (battery pack or Cigarette Lighter Adapter.) This external power source is not provided with the cable.

This cable is referred to as the PDCH-M9EPOW-6 from:

www.pcables.com

It's quite useful for powering a Prism and a GPS in a car!

Charge on the go

With my work I travel everyday. I am looking for something to plug in the cig lighter or possibly charge off of a battery pack. Anyone know where to look?
