Hi guys,

I just bought a Visor Platinum. And I had two questions.

1) I usually have to change the batteries every 10 days to 2 weeks. Is this normal for heavy use? I define heavy use as 2-3 hours a day.

2) Whenever the battery gauge reaches ~12% I get a message telling me that my batteries are getting low and to change them. No prob. I always change my batteries right after I get this message. (I don't wait for it to go below 10%)
But whenever I change the batteries and turn the Visor back on I have to do a soft reset. Is this normal?
I would think that if I never let the batteries even come close to 0% that I wouldn't have to reset.

On a VDX that would certainly not be normal, but I can't say for sure about a VPL (since I don't have one). Perhaps a VPL owner will chime in?

Assuming that this is not normal behavior, is there any chance that you are running a third-party battery utility? If so, try disabling (or removing it if you can't disable it) it before your next battery change.

The length of time your batteries drain in seems normal to me. When I first got my VDx I had to change the batteries once a week I used it so much.

The soft reset thing doesn't sound normal though.

I have a VDX and run Launcher III 3.5.2. Every time I change the batteries, the Visor soft-resets itself! Seems to work fine, though...just an endearing little quirk. (Gotta run DBScan to clear those redundant shortcuts once in a while, though.) I get about a month per set of alkaline AAA's.

I have had a Visor DX since May, 2000. I have to soft reset every time I change the batteries, which is frequently b/c I use it a lot. I'd say I change batteries around once a week, week and a half. I run Launch 'Em which appears to have a battery measuring device, so that may be causing my reset issue. (Frankly, I can't remember if it started before or after I installed Launch 'Em.)

Other than that, my VDX runs fine and always has. So I just live with it.

As Mark stated, this is definitely not normal. I have had my batteries actually go to 0% and the display go blank and. After quickly changing the batteries, it has come back to life with no reset or loss of data! (results not typical )
I also run Launcher III v1.5.2 and it doesn't create any problems for me (Tom: is there a version 3.5.2?).

Could Launch Em be factor?

Thanks for responding so quickly (I love this board!)

Could LaunchEm be the problem? Maybe the gauge is wrong and the batteries are actually lower than 10%. Or maybe there's a software conflict of some sort.

Anyways, I don't lose any software or data, I was just curious. I guess I'll live with it!
