No more NEO?

Just noticed the NEO is no longer available on the Handspring site. Down to the Platinum and Pro now (of the Visor line).

It is time to question the integrity of Handspring.

TWO DAYS ago, the Neo was being sold as new and refurb, the Platinum as a reburb only.

Today the Neo is only being sold as a reburb and the Platinum is available both as brand new and a refurb.

As I've mentioned in other posts, it is bad enough that they list the Neo and Platinum as identical which they are NOT, now they're playing games with how they are selling them.

I just received a new Neo three days ago (which I ordered from them) and have referred several people to do the same.

What a screwy outfit. Talk about a company with a death wish...

Other than the fast lookup feature of the Neo, in what significant way would they be different?

Handspring needs to realize that they're blowing their head off by discontinuing Visors. I (at least) hope that the PDA makers have something big in mind for SD I/O.

I just hope my Neo doesn't die. I have a nice chunk of cash invested in Springboards.

Would it harm a a Plat if I bought one and left it in the box in case something happened to my Neo?

It wouldn't harm the unit at all. The biggest long-term risk to your Platinum is that your Hotsynch software and associated conduits won't be compatible with future desktop software (ie, Outlook 2004 or whatever it is called won't be compatible with your synch software and no one at Palm, Microsoft, or Handspring -- ha!-- will care about your dillema).

If you freeze your operating system and desktop software in time, your Handspring product will remain completely viable until you drop it.

No offense, but did you mean that as a pun? That's exactly how my last PDA, a Casio, met its death. I can be somewhat of a klutz.

Thanks for your feedback on the Plat. I think that may be the route that I am going to go, because I plan on keeping this computer until I graduate, which will be in 2006. I really hate to see good electronics go down the hole, i.e. my Springboards when I don't have a working Visor.

They certainly seem suicidal--

N.O.M.B.

I said some things in an earlier post re: HS that, while I cannot "unpost" it, I can respond with an afterthought:
N.O.M.B. It's "none of my business".

I've compared my Neo and Plat (viewing the same page of a book) with identical settings. The Neo is definitely a clearer screen. However ... the Plat, like the Deluxe, is a darn fine book reader.

Whatever happens in future, I consider myself fortunate to have a device that does what I need it to do. I cannot concern myself with the fact that Handspring Visors do not even get a mention in most places because ... it is NOMB

Had you ever thought the differences between your units may not be model differences, but rather component design or manufacturer differences?

It may be possible that your Platinum and Deluxe share the same screen and are different than the Neo screen because there was a later design change or Handspring switched the screen source. Newer Plats may be the same as Neos.

Just a thought.

Just an opinion--but--------

I don't believe they'remaking new plats--I think they just have them in stock from previous manufacturing obligations--

They may or may not have new neos later--

Remember they farm out all (or virtually all) their manufacturing

I am curious... what is the difference between the "Visor", "Platinum", and the "Neo"? I see they all have 8mb of built in memory... but as far as I can tell their is no difference other than the case they come in? ...someone help!
thanks.

Processor Speed. The Visor Deluxe has I believe 16mhz and the Plat and Neo have 33mhz. As for the differances in the Plat and Neo, I'll let the Handsping experts tackle that one. By the way, I saw at a Wal-Mart recently a Visor Deluxe (Their Last One) marked down to $29.99. I talked myself out of it at the time, now I wish I had bought it just for a backup. That processor speed just seems so slow now days, that is what kept me from getting it.

Arrow

The neo and Plat have the faster processor
The neo has a slightly better screen--(in most people's opinion and I stress slightly)
The delux is slower--with os 3.1-
That's the big difference--Though there are many many programs that use anything above 3.0 -- some programs require 3.5 and higher--

thanks! I've been a Prism owner for 1 1/2 years... but never really knew the differences between the other models. The Handspring site is kind of vague about comparing the various models to each other.
thanks.
