Exclamation

Is anybody else here getting fatal exceptions (and other assorted, unexplainable errors) on their Prism? I'm getting major problems using RsrcEdit and SmartDoc, both recently installed in my Prism (with 989K of RAM left--whoa, that stuff disappears fast!).

SmartDoc is giving me a fatal exception when I'm working with a large file. RsrcEdit's problem is much more perplexing: when I try to add a color icon to a resource, it asks me again if I want to do that when I tap OK, and if I tap Cancel, it gives me a fatal alert ("DataMgr.c, Line:7025, DmWrite: DmWriteCheck failed"). HackMaster is installed, but there aren't any Hacks installed with it.

PS: This is pure speculation, but...*sigh*...could this somehow be related to the bad DRAM issue with the VDx's? I never had a VDx, so I don't have any experience with that situation...

Arrow

The first thing I suggest is going to the software developer's websites and seeing if there is any color/updated versions. Then you may want to try clearing some memory since you're working with large files. I've seen some applications crash when memory starts getting low.

Wink Fatal Exception

Yup, got a few fatal exceptions on my Prism as well. I think the reason has been because I've installed Hackmaster. I've since removed hackmaster and all seems well.

Since hard resetting my prism and removing palm desktop/avantgo from control panel I haven't had any problems with any hacks/hackmaster (I have powerhack, plegmhack, hottime, and hackdeletehack).

Unhappy Same problem, different app

I get the exact same error -- i.e. "DataMgr.c, Line:7025, DmWrite: DmWriteCheck failed" -- when trying to access the popup in Applications on my Prism.

Oddly enough, I can use the Applications "button" to toggle through the available categories, but it will always skip Unfiled, which seems to be involved in the problem. There doesn't seem to be a DB that I can zap in order to "reset" Applications on the Prism either.

This didn't manifest itself for me until I installed the Handspring 1.1 update, although I'd been getting plenty of random Fatal errors using Datebk4, which I trashed long ago.

BTW I've yet to try and remove the update (via hard reset and careful restore) to see if it works. I wish we could get a real answer on this...

Oh yeah, no Hackmaster or anything funky like that installed...

Did you delete any files just prior to having problems? It kind of looks as if the program is trying to branch to a sub-program that is no longer available.

It's possible. I did have a few apps that I upgraded away from (Action Names from Datebk4, DateMate from Birthdate, Web Confidential from Mobile Account Manager) that I removed before hand... However, I HAVE gone through the process of hard resetting and restoring from backup and I'm fine after the hard reset and the error occurs after the restore -- of course, now that I look at it, LauncherDB gets backed up, so if it was damaged somehow, it would have been put back onto the Visor as such...

(Follow-up: I went and hard reset the Prism and restored, making sure the previous backups of LauncherDB and psysLaunchDB were not placed back onto the device... and sure enough the problem went away! Thanks a lot for the lead!)

What is the value/purpose of "psysLaunchDB"?
I see it appear near the end of a HotSync session
and don't know what it does.

Thanks,

PRISM really sucks!

I think it only shows up when you have the HS Updater 1.1 installed.

On the side note, I am getting pretty pissed up with this Fatal Exception error / Datamgr.c error crap. I used to own Windows CE devices and the reason I am moving to HS is because it is powerful and it is runing PalmOS that supposedly better (and more stable) than the Windwos CE. Turn out the hype is bull, at least the HS is not very reliable.

If anyone can convince me otherwise or have the solution to this problem, that'll will be great! BTW, I have the PRISM with NO ANY OTHER 3RD PARTY APP installed, just the OmniSky.
