For what it is worth-
When using rechargeables, nickel metal hydride (Ni-Mh) are a lot better than nickel cadnium (Ni-Cad)- they last longer, deliver power better, and can be recharged every day.
I had 4 of these- 2 in the charger and 2 in the unit and I would swap them daily (just after doing a back-up- just in case!) They thrived on the constant swapping.
The big problem with rechargeables is the power utilization curve. As alkalines die, they die in a fairly smooth, slow curve to nothingness. Most rechargeables die pretty quickly- so you have a lot less warning that it is about to happen.
Swapping daily prevents that problem.
There are also a couple products offered to let you use and charge rechargeables right in your Visor, as well as a set of modifications you can do yourself (sort of) at 'Stephanies Visor Pages' (sorry, I have lost the URL, but I originally got it at www.the-gadgeteer.com)
Good luck!
