I have tried everything I can think of to get
Netscape 4.7 Mail to sync with my VDX. ANY help would be appreciated. HELP!! A note as of 1/12/00 at 10:41am pst. I still haven't got Netscape Mail to work, however I did find a way to get my mail. Go to www.pdQsuite.com and download that from Qualcomm. It will sync with either EUDORA or (grimace) OUTLOOK, either regular or express, which is a standard part of Win 98. It aint what I wanted, but until I can find a satisfactory conduit for Netscape Messenger, it will do. Oh Yeah, the pdQ Suite is a 30 day trial, then it costs $44.95. It also includes a Palm OS specific browser for those of you who have a modem on your Visor. However, I am STILL desperately looking for a way to sync with Netscape Messenger.

New entry: 1/13/00 at 3:15 PST. Using pdQ Suite, I set the Hotsync preference in Eudora (v.1.05 for Palm, included in pdQ Suite)to Sync with "Generic MAPI", and since Netscape Communicator is set to MAPI, shock, my mail synced flawlessly. Using pdQ Suite, you can set the mail prefs to how long and large (K) to download, then if the message exceeds that, you can tell the program to retrieve the rest of it on the next Sync. This one may be worth the registration fee of $44.95, since it also includes a palm OS specific browser. That will be helpful once Innogear releases the Six Pack, and I can dial in without going through my laptop. Hope this helps. I still would like to find a Netscape specific conduit though.

Me too -- I installed software pointed to elsewhere in this forum and the Netscape mail sync always blows up in kernal32.dll. I haven't been able to find anything on the Netscape site supporting the mail sync. At least the address book sync works...

I am having the same problem. I did get some improvement when I upgraded to Mail Conduit 3.0.4 from the Palm Pilot site. Now instead of always crashing and locking up my computer, HotSynch crashes but goes away when I click OK. If I unselect MAPI application in Messenger HotSynch synches everything except Mail and gives me a message that it had a problem. Like you I get the Kern32.dll error message.

I had the same problem. You might try creating another folder for the items currently in your inbox. Move all of your emails, with the exception of one that is concise without attachments. My understanding is this occurs when the inbox contains > 100 messages or there is a corrupt email. I hope this works.

OK, I've got NS 4.7 Messenger synching -- sort of. Not all of my Inbox messages come into the Visor -- usually just one or two,
sometimes just the header.

I found out that you can select Netscape in the HotSync Mail set-up if you press the 'N' key while in the drop down box. I did all that. I set my NS Preferences to "Use Netscape as MAPI..." and I also set my Inbox Properties to "Select for download". I've even tried using MS Outlook Express in the Mail setup (I heard that it's a 'generic' MAPI interface).

None of these things seem to solve the problem. All of my other synching with NS is working just fine: calendar, addresses. I've also got a co-worker who has a new Palm IIIx that appears to be having the same problem, although he's not as worked-up about it. Note: I'm using an IBM ThinkPad and WinNT.

I'm too stubborn and cheap to spend $50 just now to solve this problem. I'd like to keep searching...
Don.

OK, I've got it working! (Previously I wrote that Netscape mail sync crashed in kernel32.dll.)

I followed the instructions at http://www.concentric.net/~mdbyers/palm3.htm. The critical piece was unzipping the net_palm.zip file and replacing ONLY the mapi32.dll file as specified in step 6h. (The new file was a year older than the one it replaced...)

I had previously installed the mail conduit from http://www.palm.com/custsupp/downloads/emailupd.html.

Good luck!

Fred

Unhappy

I tried Step 6h. It didn't resolve my particular "bug". I'm using NT. I placed the mapi32.dll file in the system 32 folder. I'm still hunting around for a resolution... I'm starting to lose hope. All other aspects of my Visor and synching are great.

Question

Hello Everyone!

I too am having problems with Netscape communicator and my visor. I am also crashing my hotsync manager but I have noticed that it crashes only when it tries to Hot Sync an e-mail message that has an attachment. Is anyone else having this problem/Did anyone solve this problem? Also I can't get the Netscape address book to sync with my Visor? (Netscape address book is empty, Visor address book is full) Please help!

Update: Success!! (sort of)
This is to address the, "I'm synching, but only getting one (or a couple of) message(s) to come over to the Visor" problem...
Although it's not particularly elegant, this works fro me.
First of all, I'm using version 4.7, so I don't know if/how this applies to any other versions.
Right click on your Netscape Inbox "folder" and go to Folder Properties.
Under the Download Options tab, check the Download this Folder box.
Now, before you synch your Visor, you need to synch the Netscape desktop client with the mail server, as if you were going to work offline.
Go to File, Offline, Synchronize. There are some options there. I have synch Mail Messages, and Send Unsent Messages checked. Click on Synchronize. The first time you do this, it might take a while -- it will
go a lot faster in subsequent synchs -- the more often you synch, the faster it will go, and vice versa. I think that it's copying the e-mails from your server to your Netscape client which is where the Visor Hot Synch
will be able to find them.
Now, do your Visor Hot Synch, and you should see all the messages that are in your Inbox come into your Visor. Whenever you want to Hot Synch e-mail to your Visor in the future, you have to remember to do the Netscape synch first -- a "minor" extra step.
There are some options in this process that you could mess with, but I pretty much kept it simple as I've described.
A word of caution! If you delete messages from your Visor, they will be gone for good as far as I can tell.
They do not go into your Netscape trash.

I hope this helps!

I have been able to syncronize her handspring to the palm desktop pim, but when I attempt to sychronize her mail, if loads my mail from outlook instead.. What am I doing wrong??
I am pretty sure I have done everything correclty, mail set up to Nescape communicator, etc. etc..

also, the above link,
http://www.concentric.net/~mdbyers/palm3.htm
is dead, and from several of the threads it seems to be one one with all the answers...
