Cool Visorphone for ALL Handspring

As mentioned earlier in a thread the american Handspring site says that the Visorphone can not be used with the Solo or Deluxe.
The European website says that the Visorphone can be used with any Handspring. Hmmm - it is exactly the same module - I called them and asked why they make this difference - the representative was surprised and said that the module can be used with really all Handspring's.

This is just to inform you.

Their site says no such thing. The closest thing that I could find was from here:

quote:
Q: Does VisorPhone work with all Visor handhelds? Will VisorPhone work as a world phone with any Visor handheld?

A: Yes, VisorPhone works with all Visor handhelds in the United States. If you wish to use your VisorPhone as a world phone, you should purchase a Visor Prism, Visor Platinum or Visor Edge and check with your service provider for international roaming services. While VisorPhone will work with the 2 MB Visor handheld, Visor Deluxe and Visor Solo in other countries, Handspring strongly recommends using VisorPhone as a world phone with the higher-end models which have been optimized for communications modules operating on the 900 MHz radio frequency used most often overseas.

Yeah and I do not understand this politic. They say nothing here in Germany about any probs - and as the US site states the usage here in Germany will be " as a world phone".
I am just curious what they want to tell us...

The original Visors were supposed to have radio interference problems while new modelds are supposed to have extra shielding to stop this. Handspring has/had a program to exchange your Visor for one with better shielding though.

What they are saying is that for best results and a better experience get the Edge, Platinum or Prism. For so-so results you can be a cheapskate and get teh Solo or Deluxe.

If this is the only problem - I got mine exchanged for a shielded one.

Are the so-so results based on the RF problems? Any idea on that?

This is a possibility. You should also take into consideration that unlike the Edge, platinum and the Prism, the Visor and Deluxe was not built with the VisorPhone in mind.

Uuuups - I thought the VDX was planned with and for the Visorphone - this told us the marketing of Handspring here in Germany.

Well - looks like we have to wait for someone who is figuring it out with a VDX or Solo.

Cool

Hmmm, i received my phone 2 weeks ago from Handspring in the UK and use it since them. At all, it works fine with some exceptions. In comparison to othe cellulars (like Nokia 6210) the batterie-runtime seems a little bit weak (with some calls appr. 2 days continously). And the service quality is not so good like on a standalone-phone (with the same service, i get in a full coveraged area weaker signals). But just to answer your question: It works at all with my VDX ;-)

Angry

Yes, but i forgot one neg thing. I experienced it right now on the train, where i had no coverage: In this case, the phone drains your batterie really fast. Hopefully, Handspring will give us a larger one. SOmebody in the Visorvillage-forum asked them, but actually they answered him, that theyve not planned it ;-(
