Question

Hi,

I'm thinking of ordering a Visor, and am not sure of which one to get - the solo or the dlx? The $100 difference in price can't be ignored, but the dlx comes with a lot more memory. Also, I realize the price would be a little more for the solo if I got a cradle. But, I just wonder if 8 mb of memory is really necessary? Except for the Palm IIIx, all the other Palm Pilots have 2 megs, right? I haven't heard many Palm users complain about not having enough memory. Many people at work tell me that 2 mb is more than enough for them...and they d/l lots of stuff.

So, I guess I'm asking if there's any other significant features that I'm missing that are on the dlx but not on the solo? The leather carry case and the different colors also don't interest me that much. Is the battery life and screen quality, etc. the same for both?

Thanks in advance for any info!

Dawn, go with the Deluxe. Aside from the color choice (if you'd rather have color than a graphite one), the 8MB built-in is worthwhile b/c you won't need to buy a $80 module to upgrade later (if you find you would need the extra memory).

Right now, there are some people who might not need 8MB. However, with the new OS and the clear trend toward 4MB (minimum) and 8MB being the new standard with the Vx and the Deluxe, you've got to assume that developers will start putting more into their apps.

If nothing else, I'd go for it just to have the extra RAM, but the color option is also nice.

But keep in mind that I would wait at least a month before ordering, considering how poorly-run Handspring's distribution is right now.

dawn,

IMHO, the deluxe is the best buy of the 3 models currently offered by HS.

in addition to my Visor Dlx, i own a Palm IIIx. i found it difficult to maintain more than 350k available on my IIIx.

there are so many programs that you will find useful, or just plain cool, you will be surprised how quickly your PDA fills up.
