In the May issue of Business 2.0, there is an article on the 'Palm Phenomenon', and also an interview with Jeff Hawins. A few interesting excerpts from the interview:
"Q: Have you made a decision to use another OS?
A: ...Long-term, if Handspring grows as large as I think it will...then it's almost certainthat we will have products that won't run Palm OS. But that's not a product announcement."
"Q: ...[Palm CEO] Carl Yankowski let us know that he's not fond of the Palm VII...
A: ...at the time...the CEO, Casey Cowell, kept saying, 'I want you to do a wireless Palm.' I said, 'Casey, I don't think it's the right time -- we'll be getting ahead of the curve and I don't think I have a great solution I can deliver.'...I definitely felt like it was a product we were forced into doing..."
"Q: What do you do with [a persistent connection]? Some people would like to send you ads for the mall you're driving past.
A: ...I don't subscribe to the idea that when I'm jogging past the coffee shop, I get a message that says to go in. I'll shoot the thing if it does that."
(I love that last quote!)
