Bad Prism Crash.
Most of my stuff is restored after 2 days of plugging,
but now the Install on PalmDesktop v.4.01 won't download the apps scheduled in the Install box.
Tried reinstalling Palm Desktop and resinstalling the last programs before HotSynch Error occurred. Nothing.
Palm won't help, saying "third party".
I'd appreciate any ideas that would help get this Install going again.
Thanks!

Search your hard drive for familiar .prcs and .pdbs or other related Palm files. If you have more than one user syncing to your PC, copy (don't 'move' them just in case)... copy them to the appropriate user's install folder. Soft reset. Try to sync again. See if this works. If it does great, but still you should definitely be able to use the install tool to sync these apps and DBs to the Visor.
If the manual install doesn't work, it's best to uninstall and then re-install the Handspring verison of Palm desktop. You shouldn't have problems with the install tool. Good luck.

mrknowitall,
Thanks for your attention.
How does one copy to "the appropriate user's install folder"?
I thought I knew my way around this system but am baffled.
I appreciate your taking the time to walk me through this.

It should be in either C:\program files\palm\[user's hotsync id]\install or just C:\palm\[user's hotsync id]\install...or if you are a real old-timer like me, it might be in C:\pilot\[user's hotsync id]\install.

You mentioned PalmDesktop v4.0.1....
Out of the box, that software does not work with Visors. After installing PalmDesktop v.4.0.1, have you re-installed the Hotsyc manager from the Handspring cd?
There are a few threads on how to get Palm Desktop V4 working for the visor, but there was some tweaking involved. If you go here you'll see the troubles people had, and instructions on getting it working. Personally, I'm waiting for Handspring to come out with their version.

mrknowitall, Rob, and Larry N have just been written into my will.
Saved my butt, big-time.
I found the file, re-installed the Handspring Desktop, and not the Palm v.4.0.1 (the source of my flat tire).
Thank you, gentlemen, for coming to the aid of a fellow traveler on the information highway.
