Lightbulb

Thought I would let you guys know that Bozidar Benc is working on updating/altering Launcher III to access apps on the SM card. In fact, I am beta-testing it for him now. I just got the beta of it last night, and have been playing with it a little. It copies apps over to the RAM from the card, then a hack deletes it off of RAM when you are done with it. I do have a coupole of issues with it (i.e., not being able to access databases from the card, and having to keep them in RAM all the time; not being able to have apps copied to RAM and then COPIED back to the SM card rather than deleted [so setting within apps may be saved if needed]), but still it seems to be working very good.

I will keep you all posted on the progress...

I too am beta testing the Launcher, and emailed Bozidar about the database not being copied along with the application issue. He said that it could be done and will consider it for a later version, but not for this one since the modification would be a lot of work.

I tried running Eggyland (a freeware game with a bunch of levels) off the card via the launcher, and it seemed to remember what level I was on after playing, closing (thus deleting from RAM) and restarting from the card. So I am a little confused about how the changes got saved back to the card. Also, a list of high scores was preserved with another game after transering to and from the card multiple times. Headgamer, has your experience been different?

Especially considering that LauncherIII is freeware, I'd like to say a huge thank you to Bozidar for all the work he has put into this project. Despite the issues we have been discussing, I think that not having to go into PiMover to run most programs is going to save a lot of time.

Yeah, I think it will be nice, and can't wait for some of these issues we are talking about to be included. Just have to be patient I guess, thought it ain't a strong suit of mine...

It would also be nice for the app buttons to recognize when an app is on the card too. For example, I use Action Names, Memo Plus, To Do Plus, and Address Pro instead of the built-in apps. I can put them on the card (the apps, not the databases ), and click on the icons to run them from the card. However, hitting any of the app buttons (which I have mapped to the above enhanced apps) simply takes me to the built-in app. Unfortunately, I don't think that is an issue that can be handled by Bozidar or anyone else - sounds like it would have to be an OS alteration, which of course we know can't be done on our Visors...

I wonder if a hack could do it....

I love that someone is developing a launcher for this but how about someone develops one similar to the built-in Palm launcher? I don't like tab

I am sure Bozidar's efforts are just the first of an eventual wave of third party launcher apps that will be modified to access the sm and cf card adapters/modules.... Patience....

I'm using LauncherIII v2.2 and love it. I do have one thing I would love to see.

I use iSilo for my docs, and although I have iSilo as my doc reader, LIII does not list any of my iSilo docs (probably because it is not doc format, but iSilo format)

Any of you have a work-around?

Thanks,

-Jim
