Question

My OmniRemote module seems to have stopped working.

I have emailed PacificNeotek twice over the past 2 weeks, but received no responses...

It worked fine for about 1 month, now its funky.

It seems to still be sending out IR data, but the command does not work. (The IR receive confirmation light on my IR repeater system blinks, but nothing happens...) If I use a standard remote, it works.

If I pull the springboard module and use the built in IR, it works but the range is no good. The FAQ suggested I confirm that EXTRERNAL IR is selected, but everytime I select that, it goes back to INTERNAL...

Can anyone offer any input??

John

Do you have any hacks installed? If so, uninstall them and see if the problem goes away.

It's possible that your module is not making good contact on one or more pins. Shine a flashlight into the springboard slot and make sure no pins are bent over or missing.

If you have a video or digital camera, look at the omniremote module thru the viewfinder while you press a remote control button with the module intalled. The image sensor in most cameras can see IR, and it will appear on the viewfinder as a light flash. If the module flashes with each button press, then at least the IR LED in it is still working. If you see no flash, then the IR LED may have simply worn out or failed.

Either way, CALL the omniremote folks. Email is unreliable and an unsatisfying way to get a response. See if their support technician can help you, or have them send you a replacement module. It SHOULD be under some sort of warranty.

I know that the module is emitting IR from the LED, it is not being recognized by any of my components however.

I strongly suspect a defective module...
