Hold the Presses! Mac users look out!

Yada Yada dosn't seem to support Macs. In their FAQ, it says it dosn't support them at this time.

What!? No!

I called Yada Yada, asking for a answer, and the rep on the line ran all over to find mac software to email me,

But, they don't have it right now. The guy hinted that it's in beta, but they don't have a date.
The rep said that the modem will work, but the specal Yada Yada software will not. Fine with me...

I have to give a hand to Yada Yada's customer support: that guy went through a lot of hoops for me. I'll be back to order my modem once I find "funding"...

Pay for beta testing, yada yada

So the deal with yada yada seems to be that we get to be paying customers for testing this service and system

We get to pay $149 for a 19.2 kbaud wireless modem and $39.95 a month for the first 6 months (minimum). After that, depending on what the market wans and will bear, the price will change.

The modem is not available today 10/26 but is coming in "real soon".

Angry

Just talked to a guy at yadayada and he said you need to have a higher palm os then 3.0.1 or else it will mess up the visor or visor deluxe. I'm not happy. I have had a visor since april and still have no springboards.

Question

Hey, kinda new here, but have been looking around at the various wireless web companies and here is my $.02-

I spoke with a rep at Yada Yada, and he told me that they are selling the Minstrel S (ready for shipment now) at $149.00. And the unllimited service is $39.95, with a madatory 6 months use time(otherwise they will bill you for the rest if you quit). I brought up the topic of the VDX not working correctly with the Minstrel S and he said that Handspring would be coming out with a patch on their web site in the next couple of days.

I then called Novatel in Canada and spoke to their Tech Support guys and they said the same thing (they were actually surprised to see the Handspring web page news that the Ministrel was not working correctly with the VDX). I don't think it was supposed to be common knowledge yet. But the Techie also said that the patch should be coming from Handspring in a few days to repair the RF frequency problem with the VDX.

This left one question for both these gentlemen which they couldn't answer. Was this a hardware issue or a software issue? The Novatel guy only said it was an issue with the VDX and that Handspring was looking into it.

I think that I will be going with YadaYada because of the price and the software seems pretty cool.

But then again, just my two cents.

peace.

I spoke to these guys, they told me the same thing about the OS - that it won't work w/ 3.0.

I spoke to Novatel this afternoon, and they said that there are NO problems between the Minstrel S and the VDX.

Let me repeate : NO PROBLEMS!

I spoke too two reps at both Yada Yada and Novatel, and nethier said anything about any problems. Yada Yada was perfectly ready to sell me a Minstrel today, and have it ship out at least tomorow, for my VDX.

Sorry for the confusion, but that's the truth.

I'll make some more rounds of calls tomorow so I don't keep making a ass of my self on these boards.

Question wireless coverage areas

Their site says wireless anytime anywhere. But I couldn't find anything showing or listing geographic coverage areas.

As I posted early yesterday morning, Yada Yada uses Verizon's network...if you have Verizon in your area, it will work.

Exclamation No YADA YADA for VDX yet

For all those who got their hopes up, this from Yada Yada FAQ page: http://my.yadayada.com/faq.jhtml

What are the system requirements to use YadaYada?

In order to use the FREE YadaYada personalized portal you must have:

* Palm OS 3.1 or higher (Palm III, Palm IIIe, Palm IIIc, Palm V, Palm Vx, Palm VII, Handspring Visor)
* Windows 95, 98, 2000 or Windows NT 4.0 Netscape Navigator 4.0 (or higher) or Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0 (or higher)

For our Wireless Web service and real-time information you must have:

* Palm OS 3.3 or higher (Palm V, Palm Vx, or Handspring Visor)
* Windows 95, 98, 2000 or Windows NT 4.0
* 2 megabytes of available storage space is recommended.

So unless someone out there has OS 3.3 on the VDX this isn't going to work either. Visor really sucks if they don't figure this out for all the VDX users out there waiting for springboards like the minstrel S.

Question PalmOS 3.3 for VDX?

The YadaYada folks tell me that PalmOS 3.3 can be downloaded for free from and installed successfully on the VDX. My Backup Module is at home, and so therefore I'm unwilling to try this right now. Has anybody successfully installed PalmOS 3.3 on a VDX?

Macs & Yada Yada & Color support for Prism?

From what I gather from the Yada site, the PC only software is only an issue when you first set up to use the service which requires you to install their software to your Visor (after that it seems that you could adjust your preferences directly on-line while using their service).

But you could probably do that step using Virtual PC 98 (for usb support) and above with a USB craddle.

Couldn't you?

Cool Got my Minstrel S

I recieved my Minstrel S on Saturday after ordering it on Wednesday. It does seem to be slow if I am far from the cellsite, but it does function. I called Handspring on Sunday, and in response to someones question. I don't think the is going to be a download-able fix for the VDX problem (which is what I have).

They (yada yada) are doing an exchange program for the VDX's. ( I am speaking to the Yada Yada guy right now). He is going to call me back with more info.

When I find out more I will post it.

Exclamation YadaYada service

Kyakboy,

Let me make sure I understand you. You got a Minstrel S from YadaYada, for your VDX, which presumably is running PalmOS 3.1H3. I'm convinced now that PalmOS 3.3 as it currently stands won't run on a VDX (because it's only available as a flash upgrade, and of course we don't have any flash in our Visors).

And the YadaYada works for you. Cool!

How slow does it get? If this is a "VDX problem", is this an issue that Handspring/YadaYada will trade you a "wireless optimized" (or whatever TF they're calling it) VDX for your current one?

Lightbulb

Chaos,

It runs pretty smoothly when you are near the cell site (with in 1 mile) but anything greater than that it looses its signal often. The Minstrel came bundled with Eudora Mail and Eudora Web, and Yada Yada's own browser built in. It was the 2Meg unit I recieved, and there is no 4Meg anymore I guess. And there is also a file mover package on board to move the applications or objects from the VDX to the MinS.

I spoke with YadaYada about the most recent posting speaking about the exchange program that they are doing with Handspring, and the guy had no idea what I was talking about. I had him go to the VisorCentral web page and read what was there and he said that some one above him would be calling me at work. I guess that there might be something going on, but again, it might not have been public knowledge. He hasn't called me back yet, but confirmed with me in an e-mail that he is checking out it there is going to be an exchange for the 3.1 VDX's for the updated VDX's.

I will let you know when I find out.

Mike
