For those interested in skimming credit cards, the CardTool is not the best choice. It is too big and too expensive. There are several products which have been optimized for credit card skimming. Visit http://www.mobilecardreaders.com and check out their line of mobile readers, especially the 'cube' which
-Very small handheld package, Battery operated
-Reads tracks 1 and 2, Logs 200 cards
-Reads any card encoded to ISO (i.e. 'banking' standards)
-Visual indication of good/bad swipe
-Only valid swipes are logged
-Swipes can be timestamped
-No restrictions on data content
-Data stored even if battery removed
-Battery lasts up to 10,000 swipes
-Includes PC download cable and software
I think the CardTool will be used in applications which require the cababilities of PDA + a 3-Track magnetic card reader. In fact, the CardTool may help prevent card cloning if somebody develops an application which allows your credit card to be swiped while you watch, instead of giving it to the waiter who disappears for 5 minutes and returns with the bill!
