Question

I carry my visor with me everywhere. I've been thinking about getting a cellphone but the idea of carrying a cellphone + visor + wallet + keys with me everywhere is making me look at the visorphone more and more. Plus it just dropped in price which helps. I'm wondering if anyone has experience with the visorphone in NYC. Is the the coverage okay? I read the review and i heard one person say coverage is not that good in NYC. Also does the wireless provider in NYC (Voicestream?) include data/internet calls for free or is extra money. I have one of the first visor deluxes and i've heard you need the new RF shielded ones for use with VisorPhone. I'm hoping this is not true cuz my one and a half year old vdx's sb slot seems like such a waste not to use.

Talking

I've been using the VisorPhone in NYC with my Prism and its worked just fine for me. I only wish I had held out longer to take advantage of the price drop. :-(

My reception in Manhattan has been clear, with only occassional interruptions when I've gone inside of some large buildings. As long as I'm near a window, I'm okay. The coverage area also extends through much of northern Jersey and Conn. which suits my needs just fine.

As for the wireless part, I don't subscribe to that yet. But I do know that VoiceStream charges extra for data services, plus you need to pay for an ISP.

Since I now have a cable modem, I have no interest in paying for an ISP that I will use only once in a while. (Free ISPs, sadly, won't work with wireless systems).

Good luck,

voicestream has bad customer service

I am using Voicestream and their "DataStream" service. I love the service, and connect to my ISP with my prism a lot more than I use the cell phone capabilities.

However, voicestream seems unable to tell the difference between my data calls and my voice calls, so all my data calls are using up my voice minutes! Voicestream's "customer care" department is really horrible, and unable to fix the problem for the las three months!

The price for datastream is $30 per month for 1500 data minutes. This would be great if they were billing me properly.
