I got the graphite one.. no cracks whatsoever, not even a loose screw. In fact, I almost scream when I dropped it on the bathroom floor (Ya, I take my visor wherever I go, even to the bathroom). The cover went flying to the other direction. After reading horrible stories, I thought my visor was gone. It was working fine when I turn it on. Not to be bias, but I think the graphite has a sturdier case.

Update: After almost two months of ownership, my BVD is unscathed. My girlfriend's OVD now has a tiny white stress crack developing in the cover slot. She could care less, but I've told her to be on the lookout for anything more serious. Whenever the problem is fixed (again, I think of all the design issues I've had through time with all my other toys and this one seems quite piddly), we'll just send it (or them) in for full warranty replacement. One must put the problem in perspective.

I think that those Graphite users may find that they are equally as susceptible to cracking, but they may have less warning as the stressed points will (I figure) not show up as white lines beforehand, like on the transluscent models.
