I've had my Visor Deluxe for about 6 months. Recently bought one for my wife. To get her up to speed quicker right after we left the store I put my backup module in her Visor and did a restore so that she then had all the same programs. I found that when I wanted to do a hot sync at home that her Visor shows my user name and I can't find a way to change it. Anyone know how to change the Visor hot sync name? Do I need to do a hard reset and install everything from the computer to show a different user name on her Visor?

Thanks,
Brian

Did you try to change the owners name under preferences.

I went through this when I gave my Palm to my wife. After trying for a couple hours, I had to do a hard reset and then start fresh.

I think I remember some discussion about this and there may be a program that changes the name. Check one of the larger software sites.

Found it:
PalmName 3.0

I think this is a desktop issue.

I think there is some unique number for each Palm OS device that the desktop uses. The Palm Desktop allows you to assign a name to each device.

So... (I Think this will fix it...)

- go to Palm Desktop
- click on the dropdown in the "user drop down"
- click on "edit"
- change your name to your wife's name

Now,
- hotsynch with your new Visor. Palm Desktop should ask you to select a name. Add yours at this point
- it will do a hotsync
OR
- close the Palm Desktop
- copy your wife's directory to a new directory under \program files\palm (using your user name )
- start up Palm Desktop
- do a hotsynch. It should ask you to select a username. Select yours

In the future, the Desktop will keep your files seperate from your wife's.

I hope this helps...please let us know

changing hotsync name

What you probably want to do is erase the Hotsync name from the handheld without a hard reset, right? (If you rename the user on the desktop, your data will be linked to the other handheld, and you're back where you started.)
Go into a text edit field, like Find. Write the shortcut, period, then 5. ( tap, tap, 5) If you go to the Hotsync app on the handheld, you should see no name in the upper right corner.

Now when you Hotsync, it will ask you to pick a user or make a new one. Choose New, and there you go.
